Instinct 2X - sync slow

Hey there

I have an Instinct 2X and a F7 Pro. F7 Pro is the primary wearable and training device.

When I wear my I2X during the day, and come home to my F7, all my steps sync up quite fast between the devices and I can see them on the F7.

However, the other way around it takes forever for the I2X to download the steps through Connect from my F7 Pro even when I force a sync from the I2X.

Any ideas why this could be?

  • Hello @PK

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. There are a few steps I would recommend trying initially for this.

    • Be sure the phone OS and the Connect app are up to date.
    • Ensure when you are syncing that you have sufficient signal.  You may even consider powercycling the phone.
    • Slowness can indicate too many stored items on the watch, or one or more corrupted items. I would recommend clearing the stored files from the watch. This would include Activities, Courses, Workouts, Locations, Remoted SW.
    1. Connect the watch with a Windows computer
    2. Open the watch drive
    3. Open the Garmin folder
    4. Locate and delete the contents of the above folders
    5. Disconnect the watch
    6. Powercycle the watch
  • Hey Laurie,

thanks for reaching out to me. My I2X is fairly new, I only had about 15 activities recorded.

However, as a corrupted dataset cannot be excluded I have tried your suggestion. Results:

    • Watch takes a few minutes saying "Transferring"
    • Garmin Connect shows both my F7 Pro connected, and my I2X syncing.
    • Connect says I2X finished syncing
    • Watch still displays "Transferring" for an extended time (5-ish minutes or longer, sometimes until I don't press the Back button)
    • Wach reports "Transfer failed"

Could it be, that there is a interference in the sync when both F7 Pro and I2X are connected to the Connect App?

  • Could it be, that there is a interference in the sync when both F7 Pro and I2X are connected to the Connect App?

Since there are no current outage with Bluetooth connection with the Instinct 2 series, if there is any interruptions in the Bluetooth, I would recommend trying these steps:

    1. Uninstall the Connect Mobile app
    2. Clear the phone cache and history
    3. Ensure the watch does not appear in the phone's Bluetooth menu. If it is, please remove the device
    4. Powercycle the watch and phone. To do this, hold the Light button until this shuts off. Then power on again
    5. Reinstall the Connect Mobile app
    6. Try the pairing again ( Be sure there are no other Bluetooth enabled device nearby)

When pairing, sign into the app, and allow this to walk you through the pairing.

  • Will certainly try these steps tomorrow.

However, to rule this out in a different way, since my previous reply I have put my F7 Pro in Airplane mode, and initiated a sync from the I2X. Hence no interference possible. Also, my connect show only my I2X connected.

It has been 23 Minutes since initiating the Sync and the watch still says "Transferring".

To verify what is happening I do the following

    • I open the connect app, go to Devices,
    • the progress bar under the I2X lights up, says "Syncing",
    • goes to green with  "Sync complete" within a few seconds
    • Watch still says "Transferring"
  • This is exactly what I am seeing, when initiating a manual sync.
