I recently returned from a week trip hiking off grid. I used my i2s surf edition to navigate a course as a 'hike'. I have created a custom navigation screen that has the waypoint (not course) bearing, distance, and current heading. I used max battery/ultratrac. I found that repeatedly, the bearing would either disappear entirely, or revert to a constant bearing of 218; the distance would likewise go to 0.0. This could be fixed by reloading the course.
I've included an example stage here connect.garmin.com/.../17084265402
Firmware 16.11.
Any idea why this would happen or how to fix it?
I also wanted to share some unrelated observations:
First, I kept on experiencing the "on course" message every couple minutes which was super distracting. This is documented in other posts so I won't say more.
The other thing I found was that if I enabled the phone connection and had garmin explore running, the battery bombed (like 30% in a couple hours - even with ultratrac on). I was experimenting with disabling the phone location, in which case the little Bluetooth icon appears in garmin explore map over the blue arrow, presumably meaning it's retrieving position data from the watch.
