Time getting out of sync (seconds)

I'm using an Instinct 2 Solar. Having issues with the time always getting out of sync. It's just a few seconds each week.

Whenever performing a GPS activity, the time is being synchronized totally fine. Then like one week later (where I'm lazy without any GPS workouts) I can see a deviation of a few seconds.

Then I have to either perform a new GPS activity or open the connect app and switch the set time option (menu system-time) from auto to manual and then back to auto to make sure the seconds are synchronized again. Just leaving the "set time" option as auto doesn't synchronize the time automatically when opening the connect app.

Is there any setting or workaround to make sure the time stays in sync with my phone?

No, but if you start a GPS activity (or just sync the time with GPS) each time you go out, you won't notice any time shift. Other than that, if your watch is under warranty, you could ask Garmin to replace your watch, though I am not sure whether the discrepancy of a few seconds over a weak would be a sufficient reason for the exchange, or ask Garmin to change the syncing of the time from GC more frequently.

  • every time when going out starting a GPS activity won't be a solution. That's a manual step which also drains the battery.

Will get in contact with Garmin support.

I don't unterstand why this is not standard functionality of the Garmin Connect app to automatically synchronize the time

I think it is a bug. I already did report it directly to the developers, but it is uncertain whether and when it will be changed.

According to the article My Garmin Watch Displays the Incorrect Time | Garmin Customer Support the time should sync in three different ways - from the computer over Garmin Express, from the phone over Garmin Connect, and from GPS.

What works for me is toggling the Date & Time setting on the phone from Auto to Manual and then back to Auto. The time then syncs instantly to the watch. Not ideal, but still slightly faster and more comfortable than having to do it on the watch.

BTW, I would not bother about that, unless you have no access to any charging for several weeks. I use the watch to record my outdoor activities for some 3 hours per day in average, and still do not need to charge the watch for a week or two. Turning the GPS on for a few seconds per day won't make any noticeable difference in your battery life.

  • That's what I'm always doing. Each week when I see it's again 10 seconds off setting this value to manual and then back to auto
