Instinct 2 Pause Sensitivity

Getting frustrated with my new Instinct 2 watch (in walking/hiking activities) as it seems to pause uncontrollably in steep sections (ascents/descents) when movement is slowing down considerably. It pauses just the same in all options (Auto Pause When Stopped, Auto Pause Custom 36.50 min/km, Auto Pause OFF).

Here's an example descending a steep mountain with Auto Pause OFF, it kept pausing almost half the activity although I was moving (slow at times due to steepness). I'm guessing using trekking poles didn't help the situation.

As far as I can see, the activity did not pause at all during that activity (exactly as expected), since the total Time is equal to the Elapsed Time. If it paused, the "Time" would be less than the "Elapsed Time"

  • I'm guessing that's because Auto Pause was OFF. Still, there's a huge gap between Time and Moving Time that in reality does not exist, as I was moving for almost the entire activity. During most of the steep parts when movement was slow, pace was not shown, as if the activity was on pause. Re-appeared in the easier parts and kept dropping in the steeper ones.

    Exactly.

During most of the steep parts when movement was slow, pace was not shown, as if the activity was on pause.

If the Auto-pause  was OFF, then it could not have been on pause. As I wrote, if it were on pause, the Time would be lower than the Elapsed Time, and the graph would not contain the paused time / sections. Your activity continuously recorded during all the time, which is what is expected when the auto-pause is off.

The fact that the Moving Time did not count the slow section is a different matter, and unrelated to the Auto-Stop feature. There is not much you can do with, apart of turning on the 3D distance option, which may help a tiny bit, or climbing faster, or simply ignoring the Moving Time, and using the total Time instead.
