Instinct 2 freezing when hiking after firmware update 15.08

Sometimes random unfreezing. When frozen, neither distance measurement nor chronometer: after GPS ok annoucement and starting, the arrow changes to a pause vertical double bar. Resetting didn't help. Is there a bug? There were no problem before updating.

  • Same problem with Instinct 2x running 15.08.  Crashes experienced on 3 out of 7 hikes last week.  Navigating using courses gave crash where screen just shows Garmin logo and is otherwise frozen.  Had to do a soft reset sometimes or wait for the watch to cycle back to ‘resume’ (as if activity had been paused) and crash again about 5 times.  Very frustrating and not something I’ve had a problem with previously.

  • I can now answer the question I asked! The problem was Auto Pause set on "When stopped". In the option "Custom" the lowest stop threshold is 1600 meters/h, which is 1 mile per hour. But  a 1600 m distance straight up in a steep slope of 30 degrees corresponds to an altitude increase of 800 m and you have to be very fast when hiking to do it in one hour. The watch considers everything below 1 mile/h as a stop. You avoid the problem by turning Auto Pause off. Could Garmin lower the threshold speed nearer to zero in order to let the Auto Pause option "When stopped" work properly in steep ascents by foot?
