Instinct 2 Solar stops taking solar charge once battery reaches above 79% capacity - Is this normal behaviour on a new watch from Garmin ?

I've noticed that when the battery capacity reaches 79% charge after using USB, a slash appears through the solar icon (using a torch or indoor light or daylight) on software v15.08 & most recently v16.02 until the battery drops below this figure.

Is this normal behaviour as a form of battery protection, as I thought solar charging stops if overheating or when the battery reaches 100% according to the manual ?

I have logged this with Garmin support on the 22/5/24 as I wasnt sure, and they have kindly asked for an upload of the test screen & garmin folder after following a button proceedure, but is still waiting for an answer or resolution.

No this is not normal. it should charge even if it have 95%. some people had problem with solar after usb charging. hold ctrl/backlight button until it turns of then turn in on again.

Many thanks for confirming this. I charged the watch to 100% last night via USB, followed the restart you mentioned above. Battery is now reporting 98% after an overnight, still having the same issue with light through a window with a slash through the solar icon.

It happened to me after the second charge twice 2x, the panel did not want to charge the watch and the icon was crossed out, but after some time in the sun it was charged to 100%.
