Lost Data from Yesterday

I've had an Instinct 2 Solar for about six weeks. Liking it a lot! It's good for my work. I've had no issues until last week. I was looking at my steps and saw there was no data for the previous day. I wore the watch. I noticed late in that shift I was around 15,000 steps. Definitely wore it like I always do, nothing unique I can think of. Yet, nothing's there. I connected to my phone and the other days of this week sync up. The days before and after the missing day are logged, but no steps or mileage for the one day.

What happened? How can I avoid this happening again? Anyone else experience this?

  • What happened?

Hard to tell, but there are some possibilities:

    • The watch crashed just when writing to the steps file, and the file was lost. Not very probable, but you can open the err_log file in the folder //GARMIN/Debug with Notepad, and check whether there is a record of a crash at the concerned time.
    • There was an error during the syncing to Garmin Connect, and somehow the file got lost. Also not all that probable, but you could browse through the Sync Audit Audits (if you use an Android phone, it is at the bottom of the settings menu of the GC app), and watch for sync errors at that time.
    • You may have accidentally created two different accounts (for example one with Garmin Connect, and another one with Garmin Express), and part of the data landed on the wrong account. Removing and adding back the device from all Garmin applications would prevent happening it again (but it would not restore the lost data). More detailed instructions in the Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing (see hint #4).
