V02 Max not changing

The V02 Max Cycling Stat update itself but doesn't change in value, not even of 1 point, This issue happend since i start using the Instinct 2 as main host for my indoor Cycling Training. Before i was recording the activities on an external SW (Indivelo) and the V02 Max value was changing a bit every time i trained. Now no more. Could you please help me

  • How long has it been unchanged? For me, it's stable for about 14 days and then it goes up or down a point.
  • VO2max will not always change. It's a chronic (long-term) metric. There might be percentage point changes that are not being reflected in the whole number display but still, it should not be expected to continually move unless you are new to exercise. If, like me you've been active for years then it should be expected that VO2max will hardly move. What will change, depending on how much activity you do, are underlying measures such as speed/pace at VO2max and threshold measures such as lactate threshold etc.

My graph for the last 12 months

  • Unfortunately Garmin generally only reports VO2max in integers (i.e. no decimal places) which because it's only a gradually changing metric often means you can go for weeks or even months at a time not knowing if your VO2max is actually improving or reducing until a new (whole) number pops up one day. The Fenix 7 series has a graph buried in its Training Status widget (Training Status>VO2max>[Select]) that gives you a more granular view, but IIRC the same graph on the Instinct doesn't have enough resolution for this.

  • Training status widget on the Connect app show VO₂MAX as a number and an arrow. For me it's currently showing 57↓. Additionally, after recording an activity the report on the watch also says that it's decreasing.

Like others have written, the number itself can stay the same for weeks. For me, last April it was at 54, then it peaked at 59 in October and since I wasn't doing much during the winter it started dropping again. I've done few runs in March so I'm guessing it's still trying to figure out the new base line and it'll drop further and once I start running more regularly it'll increase again.
