Discrepancy on the data - Instinct2 Solar

Hello Everyone,

This is a pretty brand new watch and using this for 2 weeks now and in the last couple of days I have seen a huge data discrepancy problem. It doesn't record the activity for long I was running a 5K mile and Garmin was running fine in the first couple to 3 miles properly and then it was stuck at a point where it didn't show the pace, doesn't up my mile(while I am running) and when I try to save the activity it initially showed failed and then on the next try it did succeed.

So to double check this I did run a 5K mile on a treadmill by wearing another fitness tracking device on my other hand. Surprisingly, treadmill data and the other fitness-tracking wearable device almost matched but Garmin Instinct 2 Solar had a huge difference.

I am seeing this issue with the most recent software update that came for the Connect App 2 days ago not sure if it has to do anything with it as the issue is directly happening in the device itself.

Did you already calibrate the treadmill activity on your Instinct 2? If you do not know how to calibrate the treadmill activity profile, find the instructions here:

Also please note that Instinct 2 watches (except of the 2X model) do not have a gyroscope, hence the pace & distance estimates will be mostly less accurate than on watches having a gyro sensor. I recommend using an external sensor such as the HRM-Pro strap, for a better accuracy.

No, it does not. The app has no influence on the distance and pace estimation

  • , whilst the issue is not primarily for treadmill and I don't like running on treadmill. I am seeing this while running on roads and to crosscheck I took the route of treadmill. So no matter where you run the pace count issue exists and this was not the case before the update.

  • As I wrote, the app has absolutely no effect on the distance measured by the watch. If you need a proof, disable the syncing between the watch and Garmin Connect, and record a run or two, check the distance on the watch, then enable the syncing, sync, and recheck it again - it won't change.

  • I agree the app updates have nothing to do with the issue I am talking about. All I said is it might be a coincidence from the time the app update was pushed I have started seeing this issue.
