Sleep tracking on Instinct 2x (non-primary wearable device) lost after sync

I have a Fenix 7x set as both a primary wearable device and primary training device. Last night I had my Instinct 2x on my wrist, Fenix on my night table (turned on). Instinct did record my sleep but after synchronization with Garmin Connect the sleep and HRV data from that night disappeared - no data in Garmin Connect but also on my Instinct. Is it a bug or should I always track my sleep with a primary wearable device only?

  • You are correct. You should only wear your Primary Wearable watch tracking when you sleep. It's setup that way since your overall Training metrics, such as recovery, will be impacted with your sleep metrics to provide you with better information.

  • First I'd like to apologize my bad english.

I'd like to use this thread to note that sleep tracking is very bad for the Instinct 2x. This is the only thing that this watch does not do fine. I didn't expect this, specially in this kind of watch with prices of 449 or 499 eur.  Precision is expected in all metrics, not garbage. And specially if you sell a tactical version.

I had in the past a Forerunner 935 and a Fenix 6x Pro Solar, last one also stopped working).  All are bad tracking sleep.

Most of the competitors are doing better, being the only thing that competitors watches are better. And even a Chinese Amazfit I had many years ago, was more accurate on this than all my expensive Garmin watches. And that watch was able to track also the naps very well. Many years ago. How is that possible?

Come on Garmin. Your HR sensors are the best. There's no doubt of that. But you have a very  serious software issue that has never been fixed. And we are on 2024. Someone should look at the sleep algoritms or find a dev that can finally fix them.

I highly recommend the video of the The Quantified Scientist on youtube. There are some very good explotaciones and comparisons.

  • I'm returning this watch in favour of an FR955. I like the monochrome screen, It is the best one for visibility and battery. I also like (a lot) the Casio look of the Instinct but this watch has some very serious bugs at this moment

    - Hangs on navigation on long tracks. It's not there are not maps but the watch can't handle long tracks. At least my unit. Not enough RAM?

    - Garmin Pay is unusable.

    - The watch is slower than It should.

What I suspect IS that the CPU and RAM are too low for the so many features and it's a pity because this watch could be perfect. I'll consider a future Instinct 3 depending of the price.

  • So, how accurate / feasible is it to swap the primary wearable setting between two or more watches on a regular basis? Real world example: using a Tactix watch as general primary whilst owning a second MARQ 'dress' watch that might be used for a weekend away. What would Garmin's expectation be in that scenario?

Whilst we're on the subject, what would Garmin's expectation be when the watches are split as primary for sleep versus activities, if they're both on the same version software?

  • I have a Fenix set as a primary wearable device and a primary training device. I also use an Instinct 3 as my second device, sometimes for sleep tracking. There is no need to set the second watch as a primary wearable device - all sleep data is synced via Garmin Connect to my Fenix.

  • That sounds as though something has changed and that Garmin has yet to document it. Thanks for the feedback.
