Reference point app freezes on instinct 2x

Hi everybody,

my instinct 2x (13.21) has this issue:

When a reference point has been set, the app freezes about 10 seconds after it's got a gps fix. Sometimes it happens that the compass will do 360 degree turns at a steady speed forever. The distance is still frozen regardless of moving towards or away from the point. Leaving the app and starting it again produces the same result after a few seconds.

Restarting didn't help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the watch freezing. For this, I would recommend some initial troubleshooting first.

If you have not already, update the watch SW to 14.12 using Garmin Express.
Calibrate the Compass. Ensure you are away from buildings and metal surfaces when using the compass.
Powercycle the watch.
If this continues, I would next recommend a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

Garmin 2x solar tactical (software version 15.08) When selecting ref point and selecting saved waypoint compas with deviation stays about 1 min and then shows dashes " ----" instead of divination. only way to bring back divination and compas is to hold GPS to acquire satellites. but then it goes away in about same time and shouting "----". Compass calibrated. Rebooted. Tryied inside and outside.
Question is this normal?

Which GPS version do you have installed ? on the watch : System-Info- scroll down to GPS.

I never used this function standalone, so do not know whether it is normal or not, but as a workaround, you can start a Walk, Hike, or Run activity, and then start the navigation to a saved way point from the activity menu. That will prevent the timing out of the GPS.

I tested it today. The Reference Point app only works temporarily for about 1 minute, after which it stops and displays " - - - ".

For comparison: The Reference Point app on my tactix 7 Pro works perfectly. Even if there is an interruption in GPS reception, it works again as soon as reception is restored.

I'm experiencing the same issue on my Garmin 2x solar. Works for about a minute before showing --- and slowly spinning the compass. Clicking the GPS button and then backing out of it is a temporary workaround when I need this feature, or starting another activity like others in this thread have noted.
