Instinct 2x Solar Tactical - Rangefinder Sync with AB

I've already contacted Garmin support regarding the issue, but figured I would reach out to others on the forum, see if anyone has encountered similar issues?

One of the big reasons I purchased the 2x Tactical was for the Applied Ballistics functionality (it would have been nice, however, to know ahead of time about the EXTREME software cost to use it on top of the watch purchase)

According to the help documents for the watch (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=sGYDr7hXhE7xupyy3pGp0A) you can pair certain rangefinders to the watch to update the holds to target. However, the function does not work!

I've tested thoroughly with my Vortex Fury 5000 AB rangefinder, and though I'm able to pair it to the watch without issue, it never updates the target range in the AB watch software. I know that Bluetooth is working on the rangefinder, as I am able to use the Vortex app on my phone to see the range. I also know that Bluetooth works on the watch, as I get notification updates from my phone all the time on my watch. But no matter how many times I go through the support article and verify that the rangefinder shows up as connected as an AB sensor, it never works.

Bench shooting it isn't such a big deal.... range out, manually update the range on the watch and take the shot. I HAD hoped to use it in the field, however, for this hunting season with a spotter on the rangefinder. By the time they whisper the range, and I manually update the value on the watch, the data is way too old and not useful.

Anyone else tried this function with this watch? any success? I've been waiting over 2 months now for Garmin to provide a resolution... now they just say to contact AB. Almost to the point of demanding the $300 back for the software license and returning the watch.

  • TBH, I really question how many people use the "Tactical" functionality of these to begin with??

There are probably many, but there are certainly much fewer of those who have an AB sensor…

  • instinct 2X is really a failure when it comes to hardcore functions... The imported .gpx lines tremble for no reason, the 'reference point' function freezes when my arm moves too quickly, the watch restarts itself during long bike ridings... This bad watch NEVER deserves to be called 'hardcore' at all, I don't advise anyone who wants to do real 'hardcore' sports buy this watch, so dude please just return it and maybe a tactix will do a better job.

  • Anyone who voted against me, have you ever done real 'hardcore' sports before? Have you experienced the situation where you have ridden 500km and the watch freezes, while there are still 500km ahead to be finished? Have you ever tried to find a point in the endless forest you marked before, and the watch dies... Yes the watch is OK for daily life, but not for 'hardcore' sports at all. Only for daily life I'd prefer an apple watch. The reason I chose Garmin is just because of the hardcore spirit it has, but now I'm really disappointed.

  • I have a hunch that the AB software on the Tactix & the Instinct 2x Tactical are the same, and I would hate to pay $1400ish for a watch that has less battery life for the same software problem. IF there are Tactix folks that can confirm that the rangefinder updates function I would consider it... but as of now there's no way. (TBH, I really question how many people use the "Tactical" functionality of these to begin with??)

I haven't had the GPS, mapping functions, and reboot issues that have been reported... I've plotted out my hunting track pretty well using the watch and haven't had any issues. Most of the secondary reasons for the watch work fine (night vision mode, some GPS nav functions, long battery life for extended operations) BUT, the major reason I purchased the watch to begin with was for the Applied Ballistics software... and having to manually input range for a moving target makes the software a very expensive waste of money and an exercise in futility.

There are probably many, but there are certainly much fewer of those who have an AB sensor. And even less of those who have the Tactic model, the AB sensor, and additionally come to visit the forum daily to have the chance to spot your post. So frankly told, you best chance is calling the Suport directly. Forget the email. Use the phone or chat options, if you want to a timely response. Insist on escalating, if necessary.

  • I have the same issue with mine using a BDX 1600 and was looking on here for a answer
