Is the 2X worth the upgrade

I thought the 2x was around the same size as a GShock (well at least the GA 100 range).?

Unfortunately not. I have both the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar Tactical and the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. I regretted buying the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. While I had no problems with the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, I only have problems with the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. Many users report the same thing. The volume of the system sounds is very low. After the first update, they become even quieter, which cannot be reversed even with a reset. The system sounds of the Instinct 2 are not that loud, but those of the Instinct 2x are so extremely quiet that the watch is almost unusable. Garmin has been aware of this problem for a long time and has not yet fixed it. It doesn't seem to be fixed anymore, because according to Garmin support, no further development is planned for the time being. This makes the shortcomings of the Instinct even more apparent. While I didn't have any Bluetooth disconnections with the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, I have them all the time with the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. All that happens is that a short alarm sounds and a message appears on the display for just a few seconds. I don't have the watch on my wrist 24/7. If the Bluetooth connection is lost during the time when the watch is not on my wrist, I have no information that the connection is no longer active.If, for example, you want to go on an outdoor activity and have an accident on the way and want to use the watch's emergency call function, this will not work if there is no Bluetooth connection. If I was out of range of my cell phone with my Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, the Bluetooth connection was lost and I came back within range of my cell phone, the watch always re-established the connection to the cell phone. For whatever reason, this is not the case with the Instinct 2x Solar Tactical. This is so unreliable! This has absolutely nothing to do with a reliable outdoor watch. If this is supposed to be the US military standard that Garmin uses to advertise the Instinct 2/2x, then I understand why the USA has lost all wars so far. You can't rely on this watch! Stick with the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical. The Instinct 2x Solar Tactical is not worth the extra 500 USD. Even if the watch has an LED, which is really very useful. And buy the watch just because of the LED? It wouldn't be worth 500 USD to me. As with the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, the GPS seems to work reliably. I have not yet tested it in detail. And as with the Instinct 2, the workmanship is good. But the extremely quiet system tones are a significant drawback that negates all the useful things about the watch.

You have one zero too much there. The difference between Instinct 2 Solar Tactical and Instinct 2X Solar Tactical is $50, not $500. Negligible difference for a lot of hardware and software extra features offered by the 2X model.

I have the Ranger... perhaps its the screen size on the GS that makes it feel smaller.  I also think the 2X is thinner.

Well.....I  have pulled the plug!

Just ordered the 2X Tactical for £329 off Amazon (from the Garmin shop if anyone else is interested)!

Arrives tomorrow and looking forward to it.

I am ready for the:

1) Light spilling through the case issue

2) Quiet alarm sounds

If it is just the above I will be happy but lets wait and see

As soon as I opened the box I knew.

It is soo much better, asthetically, than the I2. I always felt that the I2 was just too diddy.

This looks awesome.

Plus the screen size and the improved backlight.

100% made the right decision!
