Can it technically handle maps?

I was curious.. see the instinct is as close to a perfect watch as it can be, i dont need color displays, touch, but I do appreciate real solar charge and all the tracking and data algos it provides. Except for topo maps obviously.

So is it a marketing only limitation, or is there something more to it than that? Theoretically could it handle maps (processor and screen wise)?

***, I’d pay a fenix price for a map unlock on an instinct :)

Instinct 2 has a memory of 32 MB (64 MB at Crossover and at Instinct 2X), and more than half of the space is usually already used even without adding any excessive amount of features or apps. Screen resolution is rather low. So yes, purely technically, you could have some very trivial breadcrumbs map of a very small region stored on the watch, but I do not think it would be of any interest. In fact, to certain extent, you can simulate it by uploading a bigger number (I think the limit is 30) of Courses in the region of interest. You could not get anything much better than that.

Ah I see. Well, fingers crossed for an instinct 3 then. I suppose I’m not the only one preferring shades of gray in favor of battery.

I would love to see an Instinct 3 with ie 32 GB to store maps and music. No touch, higher resolution, no color display. We will see.
