Pause activity function

Hi Everyone,

I want to upgrade from my Vivosmart 4 to a Garmin smart watch that is capable of pausing then resuming an activity. The Vivosmart will pause an activity but every minute or so will prompt you to resume, then will autosave. Very annoying. I want to be able to pause my cycling e.g. for 30 minutes then resume without being bothered every few minutes. Does the Instinct 2 have a good pause activity function?

Thanks for any advice,

Linda

  • Yes, you can pause the activity and select 'resume later' from menu and watch will go back to main watchface as if the activity was ended. As soon as you press 'GPS' button you will be brought back to the activity as if you unpaused. No limit on how long you can have activity suspended this way, so you should be happy with this :)

EDIT: I admit it's one of my favorite watch functions - you can pause the activity when you're having cafe on long ass bike ride or run :))) one caveat though - with suspended activity watch won't be recording your HR - so if you will pause the activity for couple of hours your daily HR graph will have a big hole there. Obviously HR-derived data (HRV, stress, body battery) won't be collected too.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking the Instinct 2 might be the right watch for my cycling, but it's difficult to decide given the wide range of Garmin devices available. The possibility of having a coffee in peace is a big selling point !!

  • If you're into cycling, especially road cycling, I'd consider buying a Garmin with full map support (Forerunner 955/956 or some Fenix). Garmin cycling computers are famous for their instability, however their features are really awesome, too.
