Cannot get waypoints to appear.

(Apologies if this has been asked/answered, but I'm not finding the solution.)

I create maps with waypoints in AllTrails, export a GPX and import it into Garmin Explore. The route comes over fine and shows the labeled waypoints. I then sync with the watch and use Navigate/Courses when I go out for a hike. This all works fine, but the waypoints themselves never appear.

I have a custom data screen with the Next Waypoint and Distance to Next fields, but Distance to Next only displays the distance to the end of the hike and Next Waypoint never displays anything other than "- -" (indicating no info).

I'd like to use this feature to mark things like important junctions, possible water sources, etc.

What am I doing wrong? Thank in advance.

interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm also struggeling with the difference between waypoints and course points, gpx vs fit and what apps do and what apps DON'T support "up ahead"

if AllTrails can export a .fit file you could try copying that directly via USB cable into the NewFiles folder on the watch. the GE app messes up many things.

Import to Garmin Connect and add points there. It worked for me. In general, it is very strange that Garmin did not make this function readable with easy operation. And that's actually one of the important things...

I think you mean Explore, but I will try this as well. I don't like having to create my map in one program and waypoints in another, so if Norbert's solution worked, that's ultimately what I would use. Thank you for the suggestion.

Interesting. I don't think my Garmin Connect app (or website) shows me any maps like that. It will show me maps of my COMPLETED activities, but I cannot edit them. Creating maps (both on my phone and on the website) is done through Explore. Maybe it's just handled differently in our respective countries?

Okay, I did a real test and found out that this does not work. I created a route in AllTrails with 5 waypoints and exported it as a .FIT file and dragged/dropped it into the folder. The Next Waypoint field does indeed identify which waypoint was next, but for the Distance to Next, it showed the end of my hike. (It showed what Dist. Remaining shows.)

I built an Alltrails course with waypoints and exported to a .fit file. Copied to NewFiles. Started navigating and saw the same thing you did. Created same course in GC adding the same waypoints (course points) and the Dist to Next worked just fine. Alltrails must not construct the fit file correctly?
