Real time running pace not correct on Instinct Crossover

Hi,

I've just got an Instinct Crossover Solar watch and I tried it in 2 running sessions by 10 Km, I got a very good precision from GPS, I compared it with the data provide by phone and they are more or less identical both the KM than the final pace (and also same KM compared with Fenix 5s that I've before) but I have a problem with the real time pace data showed by the watch during the run. It is always underestimated compared with the data that i got at end of the activity showed on Garmin Connect and Strava and (second problem) the RT pace is always a multiple of 5, eg. the watch shows always RT pace like 5.45 5.50 6.05 5.30 6.15

It seems to me that the watch perform some type of rounding on the average calculated (every x seconds) the RT pace and I don't understand why if the real pace in the watch is correct at the end of the activity and even every lap (1Km) it shows correct lap pace like: 5.42 5.50 5.58 ...

During run I always use an HRM-Pro Plus band for heart rate and the watch configuration for the last run was: all 3d parameters disabled, auto climb disabled, Smart Recording On, all avail satellites On.

Someone have an explanation of this behavior and how to correct it ? it is really disappointing to see a pace that it is not real while running.

Thanks,

  • During run I always use an HRM-Pro Plus

Depending on the settings of the HRM-Pro, in Sensors & Accessories, the strap provides the pace and distance data during outdoor runs either completely (option "always"), or partially (option "indoors"). The "indoors" mode is in fact used outdoors too, when the GPS signal is not 100%. Usually the pace & distance data coming from the strap is rather accurate, assuming it was already well calibrated. If you have problems with the accuracy, I recommend resetting the calibration, and keeping the option "indoors". Once the strap is calibrated and the accuracy satisfactory, I recommend turning off the auto-calibration, and still keeping the "indoors" mode. If you chose the mode "never", the internal accelerometer of the watch will be used instead, and the accuracy will be then even worse.

  • Actually the band is set to provide the pace/distance indoor, perhaps the problem could be that this band was previously calibrated with the Fenix 5s that I use before, now I reset the calibration data and try to have a run, I'll update you on the results.

    Thanks,

  • I would also set Recording every second instead Smart Recording, what do you think ?

  • I had a short running (35 min) after the reset of calibration data, it seems the pace is more accurate now but as I understood it is requested at least 120 min of running with the strap so it's better to wait to have a final result.

Anyway I continue to see the RT Pace on the watch always in multiple of 5 seconds, it is not changed, then when the lap pace is shown every Km it is accurate to 1 second.
