Samsung has introduced an option to only charge a phone's battery up to 85% to improve battery longevity. It would be great if Garmin introduced a similar feature.

There have been multiple requests to Garmin in this forum, but this function is not available in any watch AFAIK
The BatteryGuesstimate app from the store can notify your phone when a charging threshold is reached, but it cannot stop the charging
I've asked for them to do this and no answer. I encourage asking for it regardless. I stop my charging between 75-85% and it's been plenty. A few times I overshot to full, but a fast discharge with PulseOx and/or a gps tracking run drops it fast.
This is potentially a problem over the long run if you charge to 100% and then you either keep the battery under charge or (if the device under charge if off) you do not start discharging it as soon as it reaches 100%. Lithium-based batteries do not like to stay for too long at a low or too high state of charge. Both cases accelerate the decay of the chemicals in the battery, with consequent faster loss of total capacity. Smaller and frequent charges are better for the health of a battery than charging to 100% and discharging to 0% on a regular basis (or even worse keeping it stored completely discharged or completely full).
I have a Samsung phone and tablet. Both have the options to limit charge to 85%, although I am not sure if that is a Samsung-specific features or it is baked in the latest Android versions (12 and up). I keep this function on in both, primarily because I charge my devices at night keeping them off. This avoid that they sit for too many hours topped off at 100% while not depleting the battery. Plus, since I use Android Auto in my car, with the phone connected via USB, it avoids the same thing while I am driving.
Unless one has the habit to charge a smartwatch during the night, I do not see that as a big concern. I charge mine in the morning when I shower and getting ready for work, usually every other day (the charging of the watch, not the shower ) . Sometime it charges to 100%, sometime less but even if it is 100% I disconnect it immediately and thus it starts discharging right away.
Having said that, it would certainly be a useful feature to have. It is always good to have options to customize our gadgets to our liking, especially considering how much we spend on them!
