It depends on your requirements and conditions of use. The solar function is intended to support the battery. So that it discharges more slowly during activities. It is not intended as a main charging source. Here is the information from Garmin:

Sorry maybe I didn't explain it clearly - I know that this function only support the battery.
But how it works in real life?
Anybody which using 2S Solar can tell something more about Solar function?
Maybe anybody have observations from real life.

Besides the solar charging, there is another often overseen though important difference between the two models: Instinct 2(S) Solar come with the Garmin Pay feature, which is not available on the standard model.
