Tracking data failure

Hi,
please, i completed a running activity equipped with Instinct 2 solar + HRM PRO Plus this Sunday 11/27/2022. I planned this activity in advance and knew that the distance would be 16,5 km. To my surprise, i found that according to my watches, i had covered 17km with 3km physically left to complete the activity. After the ending of the activity, the watches recorded a total distance of 21+ km. The GPS setting was GPS+GLONASS.
Yesterday I completed a next "test" run with GPS+GALILEO setting and the watches recorded 5,6 km compared to the real 4,8 km. The firmware version was 9,27 in both cases. If this is happening only because of the update, it is definitely wrong.
I checked the map data vs the activity record and watches tracked each km after approx. 840 meters. In the STRAVA service i discovered that it can correct device inaccuracies through the recording - this service corrected the record (distance and elevation) with absolute accuracy. I also checked the previous x activities and they were all fine.

Can you please explain why this is happening and how to fix this? I don't want to check each activity or work around such big inaccuracies.

With today's update from 9.27 to 10.10, I still have one other error, that they detect solar even without daylight.

Since you use the HRM-Pro, depending on the HRM-Pro settings, the distance comes either entirely or at least partially from the strap. Only if you completely disabled the option for providing the distance, GPS would be used, although even in such case, there are always smaller sections where the distance and pace are calculated using the average stride length and the internal accelerometer data.

To tell you better, where the problem comes from, you have to tell us what settings you use at HRM-Pro, and how long you calibrated the strap. Evidently the calibration was not done properly. I recommend resetting the calibration data at the HRM, setting the options "Use for Distance" & "Use for Pace" to the mode Indoors (do not use the Always mode !!!), and enabling the Auto Calibration. You then need to do around 120 minutes of running outdoors with good GPS signal, to get it calibrated.

Once satisfied with the accuracy, you can turn off the auto-calibration (I keep it on all the time, though, and it works fine). Do not change the mode from Indoors to Always, and also do not turn it off! The calibrated distance and pace indoor estimation is used and needed at outdoors runs anyway, whenever the signal drops, or its accuracy is below certain threshold. If you turn it off, the internal accelerometer of the watch would be used instead, and that's much less accurate than the HRM-Pro strap.

  • Thanks for feedback. You're right and i completely forgot that i changed this exact setting. I reverted the settings, gave it a test run and my universe is fine and peaceful again :) . Thanks a lot for your support :) !!
