Help me understand HRV etc

My watch done the 3 week prep thing then i was getting a green HRV status for like 4 days then orange then red back to orange couple days of green and now orange again saying unbalanced and need more recovery.

Thing is i dont even push myself anymore and only workout using calisthenics and weighted walking gor 30/40 mins a day.

I dont really have anything to recover from ha!

I get 8hrs sleep every night and always end the day with a stress score of 28-32 so fairly low.

Ive got a low RHR of 40 bpm.

I used to have a forerunner and would get as low as 12 body battery some days and always wake up with 100, with the instinct i get lows of 28/30 bit only fill to 90/95

Am i thinking too much, can all this tech not be very accurate?

  • I dont know, im starting to think its all junk, for instance i finish a day a work around 30 body battery.

This weekend ive mostly been sitting on the sofa reading a book all day and finish the day at 33 body battery.

Hope your boss does not see this post, otherwise he has the evidence you do not do anything in your job Smiley

  • Body Battery isn't one that I pay much attention to, I don't know how they determine it and I'm not going to defend it. But reading can require concentration and if you're reading a Stephen King novel you might elevate your heart rate and respiration!  That's why I think it's important not to slavishly follow the Garmin Connect recommendations and keep in mind there are factors that it can't know about or accurately determine from the device on your wrist.

  • So i was flicking through Septembers body battery and it seems i always woke up with 100 bb sometimes it would hit 100 at 2-3 am.

Somehow towards the end of sept i only get into the low 90s after 8hrs of sleep

Nothing else has changed in my routine, seems since the introduction of HRV

  • There was a software update 28 days ago to Version 9.27, however I can't find any change log that mentions Body Battery. Perhaps someone from Garmin could say if there were any changes that affected Body Battery.

  • Something has definitely changed as i used to get a little charge when chillin reading etc now i only get charge when asleep

  • It is probably your HRV (and hence the stress) that changed. You may be overstressing on the importance of these values. Take it easy, and it will settle back again.

You can also try soft-resetting the watch, which is always a good measure after a firmware update, since some registers may get out of order during the updating process.

  • Ok so a little update, i reset the watch, now my body battery is back to how it was getting 100 each morning easily, not draining as fast or slow to charge.

The HRV has obviously been reset and is in the process of doing its 3 week thing.

I think the introduction of HRV and being in the unsettled category ment i had problems with charge and drain body battery.

Im hoping now after the 3 weeks it will be more accurate

  • I found this info on the Garmin support page "Body Battery is a feature that uses a combination of heart rate variability, stress, and activity to estimate a user's energy reserves throughout the day. It records and displays a number from 1-100 that represents the individual's energy level." Since 'body battery' uses HRV as one of the variables it makes sense that during the initial weeks of collecting HRV data (mine said 'No Status' during that phase) you're going to have a different 'body battery' result than after your HRV range has been determined. Looking back through my own results I did find that my 'body battery' was more frequently reaching 100 than after my HRV was through the initial phase of data collection. As has been said before by myself and others, don't put too much emphasis on these values. Your 'body battery' might not reach 100 as frequently once the HRV data collection period is over.

  • I cant even look at HRV now, every time i click on it, it just freezes the app.

    Tried uninstall but no joy.

Never had all these issues in the past getting on my nurves now
