Brand new Instinct 2 solar will not update software via Garmin Connect Android app

So I have a new Instinct 2 Solar which arrived couple of days ago.

Normally I would expect one of the first hings a new device like this would notify me of would be a new software update and install that. But no. Oh well, I figured it was a new device and must have been pre-loaded with the latest release.

To be clear - I left all the update settings alone and see that 'Auto update' is on.

However, I notice in Garmin Connect (on web) this:

So Garmin Connect and the watch both think they are up to date despite a new release showing as available on the web. I assume this is a known bug?

Please note: I do not have a Windows machine so can't simply use Garmin Express.

When I open Garmin Connect on my Android phone, select the Instinct 2 Solar, select System -> Software Update the message there says no update available.

I can see elsewhere on this forum that a manual update using downloaded file and USB cable connection is perhaps possible so I go looking for the latest firmware to download and end up here...

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?productID=775697&tab=software

... which has no manual download/update instructions and says one must use the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express.

I see a thread in this forum with a 7.03 software announcement but again, no manual download available.

So how do I get the latest software to install on this when Garmin Connect Android app thinks there is no update available?

  • I also do not want beta software, just the latest stable version.

As I wrote, the stable v7.03 is included in the zip archive of the beta v8.08, so you can get it there.
