Slow reaction of watch! Sometimes huge lags ! Bad/cheap chip? Broken?

Hi,

I wonder if it is the chip of the watch or if my watch is somehow defective. I own a I2s Solar Surf with latest 8.06 FW but it also happend before that with older FW.

When I press a button, the watch always takes a second to react. In activities it often takes several seconds to react to pauses and esp to saving an activity. Very laggy.

Is it the old or bad chip inside the watch or is my watch defective? How is yours? I have comparison to Fenix 7s which is lightning fast but I already returned it. And I own a Fenix 6s Pro. Even the way older 6s Pro is much much faster in day to day tasks, reaction is much faster too. Much faster. It feels the I2 gets stuck but then after seconds reacts, esp during saving an activity. But overall the UI is not fluent at all, everything takes a second more then on other watches.

Do you also have a comparison with other Garmin watches? Because slow and fast feels different to anyone but comparing it is a fact.

EDIT: Not in battery saver mode BTW if that could explain some lags. It happens almost everywhere anytime with any setting.

  • 100% this post.  The watch is so laggy.  I have an I2 SolR Tactical.  It actually gets hung up sometimes.  I'm on the latest OFFICIAL release and no improvement.  There's a slight delay across the board making it somewhat sluggish, but not nuts, then comes lags, which there are a lot of and it looks as if the watch didn't register clicks, but it does. It just takes forever.

I think future posts should have the keyword "lag" and "laggy" in it.  This behavior doesn't exist in the Instinct Solar V1 and coming from a topline Coros Vertix, I was actually shocked with how crisp it was in responding to inputs from the buttons due to the former being rather laggy.

  • Lag, that is the word I searched for, not native english speaking here. Thx. Yeah, I mean the 2 year old Fenix 6s, of course higher end I know, is much more responsive and faster in everything. Only a few actions show fast response, most are really laggy.

  • is the processor the same like in the Instinct 1? I have the feeling it's a bit faster. Opening messages sometimes took in the first one up to 5 seconds.

  • I agree..my Instinct 1 Solar was much faster and smoother than my actual Instinct 2 Tactical.

I noticed a very low reaction of the Solar Intensity circle in the watchface, I have to enter the Solar Intensity menu in order to update the solar intensity circle.

  • I don't think it related to processor speed - CPU intensive stuff like route loading is working *much* faster than in previous gen. At first I thought that blame goes to some aggressive energy saving that puts the CPU/SOC in a low power state. But the lag happens sometime during glance cycling or opening activity list (yet I remember that in FR230 it took ages to load activities list so this might be some throttling after all). Maybe some glances hang waiting for some interrupt from the hardware or whatnot. I do hope it's just a software issue that will be gone when Garmin devs hunt it down Slight smile

  • yes lag 100%, feel like the chip is the same as instinct1 but instinct 2 has more functions causing the issue.
