HRM dual connected but watch not reading from it

I have the Instinct 2 and an HRM-Dual. I have paired the two devices and have confirmed in the watch that it is connected. However the watch does not appear to be reading from the chest strap at all. I have confirmed through a separate app that the HRM-Dual is working and is accurate to my actual heart rate. I've also confirmed that the watch is not displaying what the HRM is reading.

I have struggled with the same problem. The short answer is, that readings from an external heart rate sensor is only used during an activity. The widget on the watch face will only show readings from the wrist based heart rate sensor. And this "issue" is not mentioned in the manual.

Same with the fenix 6 pro and hrm pro. Shows connected but no data shown on the phone
