Music controls time out after 2 minutes.

My music controls time out after 2 minutes. Whether using the widget or going into the more detail page. I didn’t have this problem on my original instinct or Fenix 6. I am using a iPhone. Controls work fine otherwise but this makes the watch useless for me if I have to keep scrolling and going into music.  I am getting close to my return period so I am not sure if I should just return the watch and stick with my other ones. Anyone else having this issue? I am on the latest 6.12 software.

  • Thank you for reporting the difference in behavior between generations. I was able to replicate the Music Controls on my Instinct 2 Solar closing out if I did not press any buttons on my watch. I then double checked on the last generation. My Music Controls also closed out automatically if I not press any button to keep the controls active. I am not seeing a change in behavior between both generations.

In both tests, I had to long hold my CTRL button and re-select the music controls if I wanted to forward or pause a song etc.

  • Was the last generation a solar? The other is a regular instinct 1 (non solar). Not sure on the firmware but I can check. Also anyway you can check the fenix 6x pro? Unless it was a recent firmware design change the music controls would always stay up on my garmin watches. Kind of pointless to have to go back every time to change the song while you are listening.

  • Yes. Both tests done were on a solar edition. An Instinct Solar and an Instinct 2 Solar. On my Fenix 6X Pro Solar watch, the Music Controls did not timeout in testing. On my base Instinct, the Music Controls DO timeout just like the behavior on the Instinct 2 series.

  • Instinct 1 SW 16.50 (Non solar Flame Red)

Does not time out with music playing.

    GPS 2.70

    BLE 1.60

    WHR 20.03.32

Also I noticed on my Instinct 2 when I get a phone call there are no buttons to accept or decline like on my instinct one

  • Given you have a call issue too, more and more it seems there is an issue with your specific watch or with your setup. Your incoming calls will show on your Instinct 2 the same as your original Instinct. Please double check your Phone > Smart Notifications settings on your Instinct 2.

If you continue to not see your incoming calls and the ability to interact with them, remove your Instinct 2 out of your Connect APP's Garmin Devices menu. Also, remove your watch from your phone's Settings > Bluetooth menu. You may need to go as far as putting your watch back on default settings in your System > Reset menu.

You are always welcome to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region. A live call interaction is sometimes best to get to the bottom of an odd behavior.

  • Tried what you said and no difference. I am notified of the calls on my watch, it just doesn't suggest what button to press to accept or decline like on my Instinct 1. All notifications work also(FB, SMS, Apps, etc) The music does the same thing and still times out after exactly 2 minutes. Looks like its a specific firmware bug on the  Instinct Solar units. or a "feature" since you said it happens on the ones you tried.  I guess I will be returning the watch and sticking with my Original instinct and F6. Thank you for the help/suggestions.

  • Im having the same issue. Old instinct 1 tactical solar never used to timeout. Why would you want it to time out? My instinct 2 tactical solar also timeout after 2 minutes. Why would you want it to time out? The idea being you can walk and one touch skip track without looking at the watch, now every time I want to skip a track I have to find the glance and go in again.

  • Generally, all widgets, including the Music Control, do time out after 2 minutes, and as far as I can tell, always did, even on my old Instinct 1st gen. There is an exception, though, and hence an easy workaround for that - widgets like the Music Control, Steps, ABC, Temperature, etc, do not time out when an activity is in progress in the background. All you need to do, if you want to keep your Music Control widget on the screen for a long time, is starting an activity. If you want to preserve the battery power, and do not need to log the track, select an indoor activity, or disable the GPS in the activity menu.

  • Generally you are WRONG.

    Epix 2(recent beta) No timeout

My Current Enduro 2 No Timeout(latest beta).

    It's a Software/programming issue. ;)
