Instinct 2 Solar (Tactical) "Washed Out" Display: Anyone else having this problem w/their display?

   T

The GI2 (on right) is much more "washed out" and closer to purple when compared to the original's vibrant blue (on left); both are backlit to 100%. Moreover, the viewing angle on the GI2 is simply terrible... clearly, the new "domed" PowerGlass does not add one of the primary advantages of having a domed crystal which is improving the visibility at acute angles (especially underwater) by mitigating light reflectiveness. I'm not impressed at all. As opposed to the original solar models, the new GI2s have a "full" solar panel behind the display, so this may be the cause of both the tint and viewing discrepancies; I've contacted Garmin support and am waiting for some explanation... hopefully it is just that I may have a defective watch (which can then be replaced by Garmin).  Also, much as I appreciate the improved display resolution of 176x176 (which does make the text look crisper), they've taken advantage of that to make the overall text smaller in order to fit more data displayed on the screen size; that's all well and good, but it does make it more of a strain for legibility... not all of us have a 25 y/o sight. As usual, Garmin did incorporate a font size setting; I've provided them with that feedback and feature suggestion, so hopefully they will add that in a future update.  Has anyone else noticed this issue?

  • Please, go outside and touch some grass.

You need to realise some "users" on here have vested interest in being here. Every manufacturer run forum has this sort of "feature". You're engaging with one of them and you're not paid to do this. I'd let it go.

  • I guess this is another one of those not-conspiracy theories.  So what's the "vested interest" you speak of?

  • the "vested interest" you speak of

I spoke about it in my last response two weeks ago, the one which magically disappeared - because presumably it was too inconvenient.

    Keep gaslighting the punters.

  • My friend why do you keep feeding this troll?  Most people here agree with you, including me, yet this tool has dominated the conversation.   Please stop responding to him.  I’m hopeful for a new production run so I can exchange my I2, and until then I hopefully read this forum for news of someone who got a non defective watch.   Fingers crossed!

  • So what is the defect in your watch?

  • Not the one you asked, but I interpreted this as "every major company's forums will have blind fanboys trolling". ;)

Tell us, what is the conspiracy theory that you fantasize about? Or is it just another ad hominem argument you keep pushing?

PS: Thanks again for your help in keeping this thread so active and on top of the forum. I really appreciate your involuntary effort to raise awareness for the issue some of us have with the display.

  • The last paragraph is an attempt to stop criticism by trying to present the roles as different.  In case you didn't realize, and we all have email notifications to prove it, the people demanding meetings with Garmin are the ones keeping this alive, even one angered by continuing to receive notifications.  I bailed as well for some weeks to just watch this trainwreck continue.  So yeah, that doesn't work.

Furthermore, this isn't an insane message board with hundreds of thousands of people, otherwise devilfrog wouldn't have gone to a YouTube channel with fewer subs than I have people in my neighborhood.  So the thread staying at the top or whatever isn't doing anything.  The problem is the basis of the thread has been discredited.  Even if there was a legit improvement suggestion, which I actually would back in this case, the conspiracies of Garmin employees trolling, Garmin ignoring demands from military to have direct meetings about this, and this being a "defect" are just too much.  The thread is toxic and nothing will come out of it and it's beyond unfortunate.  You guys don't even believe those of us showing the watch display really isn't that bad.

I think it's unfortunate Garmin isn't here, but that's not without reason, such as the toxicity and unreasonable demands. Who wouldn't want a screen that's got even more legibility at angles?  The issue is I haven't seen what was disingenuously presented by having two watches at different angles.  When I wear my watch, the visibility is fine.

Garmin has given options to those complaining, but they want more \
