Golf shot tracking

Shot tracking still isn't working, unless you restart the watch after starting the round of golf.

I have reported this in both beta and on here but because Garmin can't answer the question they lock the topic so you can't comment on it.

  • I've been telling Garmin for nearly 6 weeks that it's an issue but they've chosen to ignore it,now they seem to be taking notice.

  • I’m also having this issue , I recently upgraded from epic gen 2 pro and that worked great, kinda dissapointing to go to the better watch and have a worse experience

  • FYI im not using any sensors just the tracking on the watch alone

  • Same issue for me - just updated to 15.31 and shot tracking has stopped working. I don’t recall signing up to any beta version either.

Accelerometer still working apparently as works when I do the one off “Measure Shot” function.

Do we know if there is a resolution yet?

  • I am on a fenix 8 solar with the newest 15.31 and my shot tracking and swing tempo trainer are both not working. Was working last week before I updated. I did not participate in the beta.

  • Hopefully it will be fixed soon,I have been telling them for weeks there's an issue but they have chosen to ignore it.

  • Updated May 27th, 2025:

Garmin is in the process of reviewing reports from users with the fenix 8 experiencing concerns with Golf AutoShot detection after installing version 15 during the beta program, or after receiving the 15.31 public update that released at the end of last week.

Once a fix has been made available I will post here in forums advising as soon as any new information becomes available.

Those experiencing the concern, please post here and I will get your account added to the ticket for the issue.

In the meantime, there are users that have reported a workaround to allow shot detection to work through the following steps:

    1. When at the course, start the round on your fenix 8 > Select the course > Tee Box with the watch displaying hole 1.
    2. (Without ending the round on the watch) Power your watch off, and power back on.
    3. Once your watch reboots, you will see a pop-up appear on-screen asking if you would like to resume, save or discard the round that was started before the watch was powered off > Select "Resume".
    4. Throughout the rest of the round, AutoShot detection should record and measure all full-swing shots as expected throughout the remainder of your golf round.
    5. Repeat steps 1-4 on each round played until Garmin has released the fix for AutoShot.

Before assuming your watch is related to the 15.31 software, be sure to confirm the following is in-practice while golfing to ensure the AutoShot feature will work correctly:

    • Ensure you are wearing the watch on your lead wrist (left hand if using right-handed clubs) or (right hand if using left-handed clubs) with the watch positioned on top of the wrist and not on the underside.
    • Also check your watch settings menu on the fenix 8 and confirm User Profile > Wrist > Is set to the correct arm the watch is worn on.
    • Other factors that affect Autoshot not recording are outlined on our support page: "My Garmin is not detecting shots automatically.

    Thank you,

    - Cody

  • Tested above and works with the exception of:

    1. Once your watch reboots, you will see a pop-up appear on-screen asking if you would like to resume, save or discard the round that was started before the watch was powered off > Select "Resume".

When the watch restarted, "Resume, save or discard" was not an option.  I had to start the activity as new again but shot tracking did work.

  • When the watch restarts I start the golf app and as soon as it's got a gps lock it asks me if I want to resume or discard.

  • I tested this workaround last night as well and had the same exact experience. No resume round prompt when the watch restarted and golf activitiy launched, but tracking did work.
