Fenix 8 Sapphire Solar - 4 days of Battery Life - TERRIBLE

Fenix 8 Sapphire Solar draining battery Very Quickly.. 1% per hour.. only last 100 hours - 4 days. Not as advertised. Talked to Garmin and they have no fix - Latest version 12.35... Offered new Eunduro 3 watch; but I really liked Fenix. I had Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar prior and battery lasted about 10 days. What do I do?

It shows 83% left - 15 days of battery life - 29 hours after charging... But No way it won't last 15 days; more like 4.

Should I get rid of my Fenix 8, get a refund and buy Enduro instead?

OR

Is there a Fix for this now?

  • If you change watches and want to stick to garmin, your only real option is the Fenix 7.  But they are no longer adding new features to the watches.  If that's an issue, then you'd have to move to a different company and their watches.

  • Hi net1994, that's what I thought. I would however like to stay with Garmin, and yes absolutely that's why I changed my Fenix 7 to Fenix 8... Any Garmin watch options perhaps other than Enduro 3 at 51mm ?

  • I also forgot to mention the Instinct family are solar watches.  But very different feature set than a Feix 7 or 8. For solar garmins, only the E3, F7, F8 and Instinct lines are solar.  The Fenix 7 watches do have 47/51mm sizes.  The instinct 3 are 45 and 50mm.  Hopefully one of those work.  The Enduro 3 (and 2) are only 51mm.

  • Have a look at the folder //GARMIN/Debug on your watch, and see whether there are the files "usage.log" and "usage_hrly.log" - they should reveal what is eating your battery. If you do not find the culprit in the file, post the last records from the bottom of each file (under the last dashed horizontal line), perhaps we can help.

  • hey I know that you're tired of trying things but I had the same issue as you and this is what worked for me:

    • Garmin Share - Watch Settings > Connectivity > Garmin Share > hit disable

    • WIFI- Watch Settings > Connectivity > WIFI > hit Off (you can update your watch with your phone and if you need music you can just turn the wifi on while downloading songs)

    • Smart Notifications during activities - Watch Settings > Focus Modes > Activity > Notifications and Alerts > Smart Notifications > I turned all off except for calls but left them on for when not in an activity.

    • Position Enhancement - Watch Settings > System > Advances > Data Recording > Turn off position Enhancement (This "feature" is new to Fenix 8, imo the GPS track already look good enough so this is somewhat useless but I can see it being a bit better around tall buildings. My GPS activity from today with this turn off still looked perfect except for an area with tall buildings, but it's always struggled there)

    • Disable gesture mode > there's a bug where gesture mode stays on without you knowing (I saw this during my run one day)

After changing these settings I also did a full battery drain meaning that I let my watch die and then I charged until 100% and left it there for about an hour extra. I'm now getting around 15 days of battery life but most importantly around 50 hrs of GPS in Auto selecte.

    hope that helps.

  • I get about 14 days with activities. Still not what advertised but something is definitely wrong with yours

  • Hi.
over the last few years I have had various battery issues with some beta versions and even some final release versions on F6 and F7/F7 pro’s.
what I found cured it in most cases is a full reset of the watch and removal of Garmin connect from your phone. This is now a reasonably quick process, now that you can back up all your watch settings in Garmin connect. So what I would do is

    1. backup watch settings

    2. unpair watch from Garmin connect

    3. Remove watch from Bluetooth settings in phone

    4. Factory reset watch

    5. Uninstall Garmin connect

    6. Install Garmin connect and log in.

    7. Pair watch and setup , reload backup.

This might be overkill but has worked several times for me with iPhone and F7pro. It was a pain before you could backup watch settings but is now pretty quick.

I guess if this doesn’t work it is either F8 solar firmware or a watch issue.
