Fenix 8 -Big problems

Hello,

I have a serious issue with my Fenix 8. Specifically, I rode on Zwift for one hour and burned exactly 665 kcal. Shortly after, all the data synced to Garmin Connect, and on the watch, it shows nearly 1200 kcal burned, as you can see in the photo.

To clarify, it’s still morning, and before starting the workout, my burned calories were at 0. In the second photo, you can see two spikes on the graph, where in one minute, I supposedly burned nearly 600 kcal.

This is the fourth time I’ve noticed this. Yesterday morning, I also had a similar calorie spike in one minute while just sitting on the bed. This has become quite concerning, so I decided to make this post.

Another issue I’ve noticed is that the heart rate sensor is not working properly. For example, when walking up the stairs quickly, the watch might show a maximum of 120 bpm unless I check the heart rate directly on the watch. When I swipe to the heart rate panel, it then adjusts and shows 140 bpm immediately. It’s as if I need to open the heart rate display for it to work correctly; otherwise, it underestimates the value.

I’m attaching two photos to illustrate the issue. Could someone please help? Is this a hardware issue, or could it be a software problem?

  • I guess no electric tooth brushing with the non-dominant hand.

The frequency of an electric tooth brush would be probably out of the range, but definitely no manual brushing with the hand wearing the watch!

When you are wearing the watch, any vibration like that would be absorbed by the fleshy part of your wrist. But solid objects, like tables, solid flooring, etc... could transfer vibration.

  • Is it possible that you walked the 600 steps previous to setting it aside and that the watch hadn’t synced with Garmin Connect until later.

As for me when I cycle with Zwift the only thing I use Zwift metrics are for in-game play.

I bought a Garmin Activity tracker to record 100% of my activities otherwise, you don’t get intensity minutes, training readiness etc.. IMO there is no reason to use Zwift metrics in my over health stats.

I connected my Kickr Move to the watch so, power meter and cadence recording metrics during my Indoor Bike activity.

FWIW - my indoor rides compared to outdoor rides for similar effort are close.

I have also compared indoor and outdoor rides to my watch and my Garmin 1030+ cycling computer. The watch and 1030+ are very comparable.

Well, then why are you surprised you get some steps counted even when the watch lays in the next room? HRM-Pro indeed does count the steps when you do not wear the watch. Or did I misunderstand your question?

  • I'll admit that I don't fully understand your process but, If you are indeed uploading Zwift into Garmin Connect, I believe you are double counting (especially if Move IQ is enabled).

Personally, I would not upload Zwift activities into Garmin Connect.
