Device update needed but the update does not solve the problem.

I am trying to download the Surfr app from Connect IQ app. it says:

"Device update needed

To get the latest version of this app, you must update your fenix 7 in Garmin express"

i downladed GArmin express on my PC and updated my watch. when I sync it says that I am up to date with software version 22.06

but i still cannot download the surfr app, the same error message appears on Connect IQ store.

I have also tried checking for updates trhough the Garmin COnnect app. i see a message on my watch saying "requesting software data" and then the message that the software is up to date.

despite all this, i still see the same error message in Connect IQ app. 

I bought this watch specifically to monitor my kitesurfing session, so I am very disappointed that it does not work. any help please?

  • Try restarting the watch. Sometimes it is necessary after the firmware update. And if you are installing the CIQ app from the web store, the you can also try force-reloading the page (Shift-F5), or clearing the cookies and temporary files of the browser, or using another browser. Or using the phone app instead.

  • Got the same problem (fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar, Software 22.06). What worked for me was:

    - On your smartphone (here: Android), go to: Settings > Apps > Connect IQ > Storage 

    - And then 'Clear cache' and possibly also 'Clear data' 

    - This will reset the Connect IQ app on your phone but will leave the watch settings untouched.

    - Restart Connect IQ app, Log in, et voila - installs are possible.
