F7SS Sudden Sharp Battery Drain

My battery life has been pretty solid since day 1, but every now and again I’ll get a huge drain for no reason, then go back to a steady loss as usual

I charged up to 100% on Friday, been dropping about 2-3% a day which I’ve been getting for a while now. But some time within the last 6 hours, I’ve dropped to 64%. I haven’t done any activity today, never used pulse ox so it’s off - anyone have any reason why it would drop so much so soon? On 21.19 as it's been stable for me with low daily battery drain so I don't trust upgrading...unless this will fix it. Seriously debating F8 but I see that just has many issues, and no other brand is as good or offers as good hiking/mapping features to leave

For example downloads of some additional components (firmware, maps, segments,...), especially if the BT connection is difficult or unreliable, may cause higher than expected drain. You can verify whether it is the case, by disabling BT on the watch (option Connectivity » Phone), eventually disabling also the Wi-Fi.

Another possibility is a Connect IQ watchface or app increasing the power consumption. Remove them all, to see whether it helps.

Some older firmware versions had a problem with GPS staying on, after the end of an outdoor activity. A reboot after an outdoor activity would help in such case.

More tips like this ones are available in the Troubleshooting guide for high battery drain

  • Wifi and bluetooth are always off - I only turn on to sync so nothing is connected or updating. I use the standard watchface so nothing odd there. It's been fine for weeks and the standard drain is so good, just maybe 3 times now it's dropped 20% or so for no reason

  • Try the tips in the guide. It sums up all known causes. If nothing of it helps, use the last hint from the guide and contact the Product Support.

  • The same thing happened to me. It was like something was draining the battery all day long. You'd have to call for warranty. I reset it, and it started lasting less a month ago. But I also had the problem with the button not working properly, so I called technical support and they gave me another one.

  • I'm a few years in now so last time I spoke to cust services they said they'd replace for £210. I'd want a F8 if I'm going to change it though

  • I had the same happen to me on a F 7S (SS) a couple of weeks ago. My normal depletion is ~9% per day without an activity (I don't think I've ever had much more than that with the same settings in 3.5 years). I had a week when I did not exercise because I was recovering from an injury. The watch was draining at the usual rate up to around 50% battery when it suddenly drained completely within a few hours. No obvious cause. It hasn't happened since, fortunately.

  • Weird, the 2/3 times I've had it has normally been at the top end rather than <50%....this was around 80 > 60%
