Warning: Garmin now refuses to provide support unless proof of purchase is sent to them

My Fenix 7X is unusable due to the problem with LAP button. The issues with buttons on 7 series are well known here in forums and elsewhere.

What is new is that the Garmin support have refused to provide service and did not want to confirm the warranty status of the watch, requesting proof of purchase.

In my case the watch was the gift - I have the box and everything but no receipt.

Here in EU it is illegal to refuse warranty and serial number and device use history are acceptables means of establishing proof of ownership under EU juresprudence.

If anyone is considering purchasing any Garmin product, I warn against about such decision. 100

  • Its a big lol m8. Without a valid proof of purchase i cannot really expect a manufacturer to grant me warranty repair.  Your watch release is from Jan/2022 even if it should have a 3y of warranty, and you got it a year later. How would you proof the date of purchase. Garmin only see the manufacturing date and the original shipping date to retailer. They dont know how long it was sitting in a warehouse, until it pops up on someones account. You would really need a good legal team to challange something like this for a button switch. Specially because a good electronics service man can do it for you, or a skilled watchman. I have purchased watches from garmin as gift. Your reasoning is flawed, if you riding on the "gift" state and dont have the proof of purchase, but the the giftee should have it or could proof it. Unless its already passed warranty time, and he discarded it for the reason. Anyway not giving you the purchase documents is silly in this case, as we all know what a certain garmin model costs by going online. I have purchased some from Recyclers brand new condition and with 5y of warranty including battery repair or replacement.

  • I had problems with my Fenix 5+ and it was out of warranty and Garmin replaced it with a new watch. They did not ask me for proof of purchase but I did buy it on Amazon. They just asked for the serial number. This was back in 2020.

I bought another device from another company quite some time ago and requested warranty service for it and that company refused because I apparently had bought it through a seller on Amazon who wasn't an authorized reseller. It appears that these folks either buy used models and sell them as new or refurbished for about 50% and there's no warranty provided by the manufacturer and that's when I discovered that I have to be careful who I buy devices from.

I've not actually heard of the requirement for proof of purchase with Garmin and I suspect that there's some kind of fraud that has been happening to them so that they request this now.

  • Here in europe you have warranty 2 years only if you have a bill. You need to proof them with bill so they see when you bought the watch. It's a date of purchase on the bill.
