Random battery drain after hiking

Hi Everyone,

I've been a happy user of Garmin Fenix watches... until my Fenix 7 Pro Solar...

From time to time (randomly) after hike (activity) the watch starting to totally drain the battery in matter of hours... I was trying everything - software updates, map updates, restarts, forcing shutdown, changing face watches, and many other what the forum says - still the same. It's so frustrating because within hours my battery is dying and it's so disappointing that I need to bring charging cable everywhere.

Anyone who solved this issue? I feel this issue is related to the GPS and even after the activity is finished, it's still tracking the GPS.

Thanks for help!

  • Check your GarminPay wallet. With the F7, my battery drains were connected to a constan wallet sync issue (litererally showing -in another language- a constant "Wallet Syncronisation" screen when going to the wallet. Funny note: paying still worked, even with that screen). This drained the battery in no time. Had to have my F7 replaced, because it got worse with time (nothing helped). The replacement had this problem too, so I had to send that one back also. Got an F7 Pro. Only had this issue once since (fingers crossed).

OFC, could be something else in your case. For me I noticed, that the battery drain often (but not only) happened when using the wallet after a GPS-Activity. When going to the wallet, I could see the endless sync loop. Took me a while to figure out.

  • Hi . I think it's not that. First, I don't use the wallet at all (not configured), second - my watch is in constant airplane mode (also wifi and phone connection manually disabled). The issue is always only after activity such us hike, when I finish the activity, and then the battery is draining... It looks like GPS is not disabling itself after the activity or something like that.

    Thanks!

  • I'm having this issue since 20.xx firmware as well. It suddenly starts to drain like 2% an hour with no reason, not even after a GPS activity. Only turning off and back on solves the issue which is very annoying as it happens randomly and I can wake up with battery totally drained. Is Garmin planning to solve the issue or is this an attempt to make us upgrade to a newer model?

  • If it was Garmin fudging devices to make us upgrade then there would be a lot more than a couple of random posts. If it were me, I'd be trying a full factory reset.

  • I'm hearing this advice since Fenix 5 days. What company regularly forces their customers to factory reset their devices?
