HR readings wildly inaccurate

GF7P version 20.22. I noticed unusually inaccurate HR readings when compared to a Polar H10 chest strap (unconnected to the Garmin). Even more troubling the HR displayed on the Health Snapshot screen while recording is significantly different (70 vs 100) to what is displayed while recording ECG immediately after. I tried the experiment repeatedly alternating between Health Snapshot and ECG. The problem continued. Meanwhile since ECG was activated for users here in Australia, I have over a hundred times received only "inconclusive" results.

I am also experiencing battery drain (4 days vs 12 previously). The brightness automatically goes up to max no matter what I set it to. For context, this watch has worked well until Jan-Feb so not sure if there is a hardware fault or results of some s/w bug in the newest firmware 20.22.

  • The tests on the HR and ECG were while at rest sitting in front of my computer.

  • You know Snapshot and ECG are using entirely different methods to measure your bpm, right?

  • Thanks. Yes I understand the sources PPG vs ECG are different. My concern is a sudden spurt in excessive variations between chest strap and PPG (while at rest sitting in front of my PC). I am performing different tests to validate whether the erroneous data and other issues such as with display are probably due to firmware version 20.22. I fortunately have access in my family to a F7P with 19.34. Ver 20.22 appears to be buggy is what we have concluded. But display issues could be faulty hardware..

  • Your watch probably isn't sitting flush with your wrist if your hands are propped up on the desk. Tighten up the band and try again.

Resting HR of 100 at the computer? Bro, that's not good. Please see someone about this if that reading is remotely accurate.

  • The watch is wildly inaccurate compared to another GF7P on older firmware, an Instinct 2x as well as Polar H10 chest strap. These readings would freak out anyone who assumed the watch to be accurate. I am fortunate to have other devices to validate or invalidate readings. I can only imagine the stress someone less fortunate would go through.
