SW 16.22 (CIQ System sw 7.0 added, CIQ API 5.0.0), but in 2025 February cannot install/set ciq contents

Before downgrading my  Enduro 2 from sw18.16 to sw16.22 I had made some cross check whether I would be able to use the same CIQ contents as with 18.16.

I saw that with sw16.22 CIQ System 7 came and there was no change between 16.22 and 18.16.

So I downgraded, but even if I was happy that not just the downgrade, but also the Restore was perfect for the first time for me, I realized that CIQ Store app denied not just any update of my ciq datafields and watchfaces, but also their settings.

I am totally confused. Is there anybody who can explain what else I should have considered? If CIQ 5.0.0 is not good for none of my ciq watchfaces and ciq datafields what else should be checked?

  • Ofc that wouldn't be a reason to leave. A factory reset doesn't do anything to your version, also if you have to factory reset anyways it's not a problem to downgrade to the version you want. you can even keep your settings if you save them manually, I tried that quite some times now:

    https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-7-series/415162/information-restore-settings-after-factory-reset-w-o-syncing-possible

The only thing to keep in mind: never buy a model which can't be downgraded to a stable version. The means: Fenix7pro is the latest so far with 15.77 available. That being the second reason to get my test unit. If I don't need it for tests anymore I have a spare unit if mine should break.

  • Thank you for the clarification.

  • Gamrin is slowly moving to lock the System, Fenix Series are specific model where we are able to manipulate system version.

For all other Series, even beta tester are not able to downgrade using Garmin last public version link ... because they are not provided.

Custom map theme is not officialy possible, app content are hide since approx 1.5 year, etc. slowly locking the System customisation

In the other hand, this could also be seen as a Security improvement :-)

  • This is a very disheartening course they are going.

W/o the possibility of downgrading I'd have had it a long time ago with Garmin. If the no longer existing possibilty for downgrades only would be b/o them not providing the software anymore, well it was that way with Tactix all the time and I evaded this roadblock by always saving the gupdate.gsp before disconnecting as you know.

But what if they hide the update file in the future like the Apps? That would be the real show stopper for me.

And all of that wouldn't be a matter of concern if they'd just provided a version which fixes the bugs which were brought in after like 15.77. And maybe some of those in 15.77 too. I wouldn't even care for such a time wasting exercise like downgrading, testing and so on.
