Background color on swim fields is buggy

Has anyone else seen this? It started recently, first noticed on 2025.02.21. This is the pool swim activity "rest" screen, in between intervals.

There have been no changes to the watch configuration, and this persisted after a restart of the watch.

It certainly looks like a bug, as there's an irregular outline around the numbers, as opposed to the entire field being different colors. Obviously it's hard to read those fields through goggles in the pool.

  • On my Epix 2, there is no option to change and this white on yellow scheme is almost impossible to read outside with goggles on. Then the display dims after so many seconds and then it is impossible.   Let alone my near sighted vision is starting to decline which doesn't help.

It is like your engineers forgot to make the font black.  Why would anyone think white font on yellow background be better?  White font on black background was at least readable.

Reading the AMOLED screens, with the current color scheme, in the sun with sunglasses or googles is one of the few negatives about the tech.  MIP screens are much better IMO.

  • This is one of crazy things with Garmin, they are releasing tongs on new half-baked features but not able to fix or add simple things, apart of that new background issue I already raised idea I think 2 or 3 years ago to be able to setup backlight settings per activity, for MIP screen you do not need backlight when you running outside but you need it without delay for swimming pool inside when light is poor, other scenarios for AMOLED. This also relates to battery usage, because now you need to use backlight when you do not need it as I assume no one switch this option before every activity :)

  • Please add me to the list of people who want this reverted.  I can’t see the rest interval!

  • I'm adding my vote for getting this fixed.  It is completely unusable in this color scheme, and on the Epix I don't see any way to change the background of my watch face to white...which would not be an optimal solution even if I could, as I don't want it white for everything else, I just want this particular data screen fixed.  Why wouldn't Garmin listen to the significant number of users who are letting them know that this data screen is completely illegible?  Please help advocate for fixing this.  Thank you!!

  • I found a thread on the Forerunner 955 forum where users of these watches also have a problem with the background in the swim rest screen (interestingly, the numbers are black on a light yellow background).

For 8 months Garmin has not cared about user complaints...

  • With the new stable version, and probably another beta version around the corner, I would very much appreciate it if you could raise this issue and improve the readability of the swim rest screen.

Looking at the company's recent activity, this may be the last chance to correct something the company doesn't consider a bug.

For most users, this is an obvious bug that should be fixed ASAP.

  • Firmware 21.19 does not fix this issue, I updated this morning and did a swim session. In the outdoor pool it's not a big problem, but after summer in the indoor pool this isn't going to be a good choice of colors.

  • I'm afraid Garmin isn't going to do anything about it. It's become clear that for Garmin, this isn't a bug, much less a "design flaw."

Garmin disappoints me as a brand by ignoring user complaints.

That's why I'm not going to give up. If a new beta version appears, I'll report a new bug in the Beta Program. I'll also contact Garmin support in my country.

It's incredible that I spent €1,000 on a watch and now I have trouble reading the values during a training session in the pool, and Garmin doesn't care and still tells us that it's "by design".

Seriously? Did they plan to piss off users and make them doubt the brand?
