External Sensors don’t auto connect (HRM)

hi there,

since the „secure“ connection of ANT devices.  All of my HRM Pro‘s don’t automatically connect when starting an activity. Is there a workaround or do i need to check it each time when starting a activity?

i started using jacket mode so i can see that it isn’t connected.

thanks in advance — mirko

  • Do you have an idea, when the problem with the sensors will be solved? 10.16 was published nearly 2 weeks ago, and it would be time to inform customer when Garmin will publish a repaired firmware.

  • Update February 26, 2025:

Our engineers are aware of an issue that may potentially cause external sensors to fail to Auto connect each time. These are still able to be manually connected again. Sometimes this may take more than 1 attempt. This is a software related concern. If you are experiencing this, your watch will not need to be replaced. This will be resolved with a future software release. Once more information is available, I will update here.

  • Hi, I hope to read some news also about the DEM calibration problem, which has been under revision for some time. Version 20.19 as far as I'm concerned seems to have permanently fixed the crash problem and greatly improved map rendering, so things look promising

That said thanks for the update

  • Same problem here . . . all external sensors don't auto-connect - HRM, bike cadence, bike speed, bike power. It's a bit of mess isn't it Garmin?

  • Hello,

similar here : i used the strap as external device because of i doing contact -sport in which the watch is in danger on my wrist. So i used: strap -> watch, watch sits in a bag. It worked perfectly until some days/weeks and a sw update. Now, im not able to left the watch more then 50cm (half of a meter)... previously it was constantly ok (no drops) for 10 meters.... also if i wear the strap and the watch during a training, it still drops signals.... i cant tell you how frustrating this with a 1k usd watch...

  • I've just tried deleting my HRM and now the watch can't even find it (yes, I've tried multiple times).

I don't think I know of a company which releases so many software issues to the general public. I work in engineering and if my company had as many software issues heads would roll! Their software processes and procedures are nowhere near good enough!

  • thats just said, because i fell in love with the product itself, and this behaviour is makes me sceptic about my decision...

  • @4487156 In this case try to add the HRM when you have allready selected an activity and then go into the activity settings. I had the same problem. The HRM could not be detected when I tried it via the main menu starting from the watch face and long pressing the left middle button to enter the settings. In the activity menu it worked.

  • Totally agree, after first such incident learnings and measures would be created to avoid something similar from happening again.

    That obviously didn't happen.

Or the engineers just don't stick to it.

If the first one didn't take place they need better management.

If the second is true that would have serious consequences in my company as well

  • I agree with you both. As a CIO/CTO it's beyond my understanding how this is even possible. It's not even the case about firing somebody who is responsible for this repetitive mess but such principles as professionalism, responsibility and consumer-oriented organisation.
