Scheduled Rest day every day in 3 days in row - The system does not want me to train.

This must be a bug.I am on the 4th day of my Garmin coach training. On the first day everything worked ok (like last year when I was able to finish a trainnig plan without an interuption).

From the second day the system has started to suggest me to take a rest day and I should listen to my body. I am listening to my body and would like to train but the system actively refuses to help me. Is there a setting that could stop the system to ruin my training plan?

  • My Accute training load is on higher side now as this is my first week of active training after a 4 month of pause while I did not do demanding things

This most likely explains it away. When…

  • Yep, it's incredibly annoying - I think it takes into account your activity the previous day  - I've tried to use the coaching app to train for a 100k ultra run. I'm a triathlete, and because I do other things like swimming and biking, the run coach rarely wants me to do running too! I got around this by siging up for the Runna App, which is a bit more grown up (also uses AI and your Garmin data), but actually coaches you to do the training. Otherwise, looking at my Garmin , I'd be a month out from the 100k race and my longest run would have been 16KM....

  • There must be some key metric like recovery hours needed and/or acute training load that tells the watch you have no room for additional training at this point.

It could be that this core metric is inaccurate. For example, if your Max HR is set at a value lower than the real one, your Training Effect might be over estimated. This in turn leads to overestimating the recovery needed. There are other reasons why the Training Effect might be off.

If you training metrics are off, you still have the option to use a Training Plan from Jeff, Greg or Amy (up to half marathons), or any other training plan, instead of the Garmin Run Coach.

Yeah... Even for a regular marathon, the Garmin Run Coach won't take you to a 20miler long run day like other traditional marathon plans.

Since this is not an automated triathlon training plan, the load of your swimming and biking takes away space for the Garmin Run Coach to schedule some training load specific to running.

You are definitely better off using a dedicated triathlon training plan.

  • I have everything set up correctly, last year on a 5k plan it was working correctly. This 10k is useless. I have set for 10k as it is going to be my first event this year.

My recovery time was yesterday only 17 hours. In the last couple of days Garmin was unable to detect when I went to sleep thus the sleeping time was lower than the real value. Other metric that is not the best is HRV status - Garmin is expecting unreal values for me. My Accute training load is on higher side now as this is my first week of active training after a 4 month of pause while I did not do demanding things. In my opinion training load is a bit missleading and does not addopt fast enough on gains.

This most likely explains it away. When I read the patent filing about the automation of training program, there is no detail mentioning the training readiness metrics (HRV or sleep).

Only the principles of periodization and training load optimization within a band of acute load each week.

There are probably other parameters that have been implemented: training focus optimization and incorporation of these training readiness metrics.

  • Thank you. This week I was able to train using my watch. Maybe it was due to my 6 months of not doing any running activity.
