Fenix 7X Pro + Stryd Connection Issues & Annoyances

Hello fellow Fenix 7X Pro users,

I've been running with the newest Stryd pod for a few sessions now and have encountered several connection-related issues that I never experienced with my previous Stryd 1.2. I’m wondering if others have faced similar problems or found solutions.

My Setup:

  • Garmin Fenix 7X Pro with Stryd Data Field
  • Sensors Auto-Discovery: OFF
  • Foot Pod (FP) + Running Dynamics (RD) sensors added manually with the correct device ID

Issues & Annoyances:

1) Foot Pod Connection on Activity Start

  • When I start a running activity, the Stryd icons keep blinking, and the watch does not automatically connect to the pod.
  • The pod appears in the Sensors menu under Garmin settings, so it should be awake.
  • The only way to connect it is by manually selecting it in the Sensors menu before starting the activity.
  • On my previous Stryd 1.2, the connection was seamless—it initialized automatically, just like my HRM does.

→ Has anyone with the Fenix 7X Pro found a fix for this? Does your foot pod connect automatically?

2) "Detach RD Pod" Notification After Every Run

  • At the end of each run, I receive a notification telling me to detach the RD pod from my clothes.
  • Unlike some users on Fenix 6 and 8, I don’t see an option to "never show again."

→ Is there a setting on the Fenix 7X Pro to permanently disable this notification?

3) Using Two Stryd Pods with One Watch

  • I still have my old Stryd 1.2 and would like to use it with another pair of shoes.
  • Since the Stryd app on Garmin is tied to one device ID, I’m unsure how to switch between two pods efficiently.

→ What’s the best way to handle multiple Stryd pods on the same watch?

Final Thoughts

I was hoping for a smoother experience when upgrading from Stryd 1.2, but so far, these connection issues have been frustrating. If these behaviors are intentional rather than bugs, I may need to consider a return or refund.

Any advice, insights, or workarounds from Fenix 7X Pro users would be much appreciated!

  • 1)

Stryd Wind and Enduro 2 (so quasi F7X Pro equivalent):

Stryd is paired both as ANT+ powermeter and ANT+ footpod. I avoid any BT sensor pairing.

    It works properly.

The only occasions where there is any problem with the Stryd connection is the auto crash of the watch related to map zooming (known and reported bug), after the restart the watch cannot connect to any ANT+ sensors during the same activity recording.

Apart from it I experienced zero problem with Stryd either I used my username in Stryd Zones settings or I left it blank for purpose.

  • Foot Pod (FP) + Running Dynamics (RD) sensors added manually with the correct device ID

I spotted it now that you wrote no PWR here.

Why did not you pair Stryd as a POWER sensor??? Without this it would never work properly.

  • Hmmmm, now I dont know. To be honest I have no info about RD connection. So I was surprised when I saw this article. It was completely new to me. I mean that RD is needed and not PWR.

The old  Stryd support articles said not to connect power both as ant+ and bt, and not to connect footpod both as ant+ and bt. Just connect pwr only as ant+ and footpod only as ant+.

When I bought my Stryd Wind noone from Stryd was speaking about RD connection type.

I bet this RD is something like the successor of PWR.  Which is confusing, because even older Stryd pods shared all the running dynamics data after they had been paired as powermeters

I mean you made no mistakes, you followed that suggested protocol, but why dont you try to disable RD and pair as PWR (ANT+).? Just as a test.

If your new Stryd works properly (at least regarding power data) then the problem is with RD connection type.

Maybe the whole change from power to rd is due to the duo approach, but it is a mere speculation from me

  • im not going to add the PWR as this is against any advice from stryd.
the stryd 1.2 version (prior wind) had the same and ive been using it since 2018 with no problems but only as an FP sensor ignoring the PWR sensor.

  • The old  Stryd support articles said not to connect power both as ant+ and bt, and not to connect footpod both as ant+ and bt. Just connect pwr only as ant+ and footpod only as ant+.

Using web archive I checked the old article which is not available any longer. I understand now that I paired PWR as ANT+ sensor, because I used both Stryd Zones and Datarun Ultimate CIQ datafields and the latter required it. So it became my habit.

Anyway since it is working for me I leave it as is whatever Stryd team writes. It makes no harm just creates another channel of data stream.

But I got your point. Good luck for the debug of your problem.
