SkiErg GYM indoor sports activity

Are Garmin going to add SkiErg  as an activity in the gym? There are only about 7 cardio pieces of equipment in a gym and they sell sports tracker. Have garmin just given up on there core offering of tracking fitness activities?

Skiergs are in most gyms and are used is nearly all crossfit classes and Hydrox classes.

Its like they just dont care anymore.

I dont want to download an app just have the activity.

Even the app design went backeards, just need to read all the reviews on android play store endless people complaining.

  • I cross train using the SkiErg, BikeErg and RowErg and rely on the ErgData Android app to track my workouts. When I get home I download their FIT files and import them into Garmin Connect web which then also syncs to Strava. I absolutely don't mind the extra steps but the issue I have with this arrangement is I have had two instances in the last week where SkiErg and RowErg refused to sync and I had no choice but to take screenshots of the workout instead. Now imagine Garmin starts supporting PM5 natively, there's no saying the same won't happen. It's frustrating.

  • I own both the row and bike erg with the PM5 and they both connect to my watch via the indoor rowing and bing activity and show all the important data like power, cadence, distance and more. I never used the SkiErg but I always wondered what activity to use....

  •  You can track your SkiErg workouts by using the "Indoor Bike" activity profile and connecting your watch to PM5. The watch will then track your heart rate and other metrics that are available on the PM5 like power, distance, and cadence

What i did was duplicate Indoor Bike then rename Ski Erg, Then customise the metric fields to what's available via PM5 it's not ideal but it's something that works without much faff after you set it up.

  • To my best knowledge Garmin watches are able to connect PM5 but it depends which machine it is: Row and Bike Ergs are supported but Ski is not. Also, the activity is not the defining factor, it is the sensor that needs to be paired.

It might be that SkiErg is finally supported but I need to test this at my gym because I returned my Erg due to the missing support.

Would you tell meanwhile what were the steps and can you find your Skierg from sensors in your watch?

Also, if you can really pair SkiErg as a sensor, you can use whatever activity you want thus I would use “XC Classic Ski” for it.

Edit: I tested and SkiErg really pairs with my Epix Pro but it didn’t send any information in any activity I tested (xc skiing, indoor bike, rowing) so I need to test this more.
