Time lagging behind

Hi,

so in last couple months I have noticed that my watch is lagging behind in time. I do the GPS manual sync and it is good for a while. Since my watch is after warranty now they basically told me to go to repair shop of Garmin in my country and see if they can help which is baffling to me since it is all digital watch. Its not like some spring is faulty and time is lagging because of it but oh well.

Now after updating to latest software 19.41 I synced my time using GPS and it was good BUT only for one minute. The next minute my time on the watch was 8 seconds behind already. What in the *** is wrong with this?

Anybody else having this issue??

What I tried bit ago was factory reset, which did not help. In couple weeks I was noticing again the time being a lot behind. I do not care for 1-2 seconds but when it turns to 6+ seconds it just sucks.

At this point I have no clue what to do to help with this. Suggestions appreciated.

  • Try disabling Bluetooth to prevent that the watch syncs the time with the phone, sync with GPS again, and see whether you get a big time difference within a minute again or not.

If the time continues to shift with similar rate, then I am afraid you do not have many options for fixing it, apart of exchanging the watch for a refurbished one (that's what they meant by the repair; and it is not free), or syncing the time regularly. Normally, if Garmin Connect is running, and BT enabled, the watch syncs the time with the phone automatically. So if you exclude the phone (or a delay during syncing from the phone) as the culprit for the time lagging, just having the phone with GC nearby should keep it rather accurate.

  • I have the same problem. Might stay in sync for a week or so then the time starts lagging behind. Then I sync it manually and it's in sync again for a while.

And for the sync to work I have to set the time to manual then back to automatic, then sync otherwise nothing happens when I sync the time.

  • I have the same problem. It seems like everything imaginable is broken in this watch.

  • There is something cranky going on with this.

I tried syncing with the phone and GPS and within an hour, it was 10 sec slow.

When I 'Set Time' to manual, it kept time reasonably well, only losing a couple of seconds over 4 days.

  • As I wrote previously, try disabling Bluetooth, to find out whether the delay does not occur due to some issues during the syncing with the phone.

  • I'm sorry, but this suggestion doesn't help. When forcing the watch to sync the time with the phone, it works and the time shows up correct. However, the automatic sync doesn't seem to work, since after a while the watch lags behind again.

That's exactly why I tell to try disabling the BT, in order to see whether the watch will continue to lag more or not. Only in this way you find out whether some phone syncing issues are the culprit, or the watch alone.

  • I don't feel like doing all the tests. Can we agree that a watch with a former pricetag of about 1,000 dollars should display the correct time? My old fenix 6 was able to do that.

  • Frankly, it does not matter whether we agree or not. I am just trying to help you. If you do not want to test anything, I recommend contacting Garmin Support. Or returning the watch to the vendor.

  • Ok, sorry for any inconvenience and I didn't want to offend you. I'm frustrated that this firmware has so many faults. I am leaving this discussion.
