Fenix 7 - Your golden release (aka most stable)?

Hi all,

Given all the noise about regressions, new bugs and new features which cause additional battery drain.
I am wondering what you use as your most stable firmware.
I remained on 15.77 and stabiliy is great (=no crashes) plus solid battery life - for my use cases.
My main use cases are (very) long runs, bike rides, hikes (with maps). Swimming (open water) accuracy is terrible but I can live with that.

However I would like to use some of the newer CiQ API functions (for a rowing app)  - so contemplating a 16.xx or 17.xx release.

Do you have recommendations - stability is prio 1 for me - or is 15.77 the best place to be (for now)?

Thanks

  • Mine 7X Pro Sapphire Solar is currently using 17.28 given all the problems all releases after 17.xx have, I decided to downgrade to latest known-good firmware to avoid any further headaches and disappointments. Prior to 17.28 I was using 15.77, but I found a problem when trying to add/remove or config the activities through the Garmin Connect mobile app for Android, and this was the reason for me going one step further to 17.28 where this issue is resolved. Zero issues with it and the battery is stable. Calibration via DEM is working as it should be, and overall, I think this is the latest good 7th series firmware.

  • I am also on 15.77 for a Fenix 7 Pro and it's reliable and stable. I read these boards from time to time and it seems like bugs are fixed and added on a regular basis.

  • I am on 17.28, quite satisfied.

But I do not plan updgrading to any 18.xx or 19.xx, mainly because of the GPS accuracy issue, problematic HRM measurement and issues with maps (too thick lines). Aren't these 3 things among the key features of such product? It is very sad.

, what  issues do you see at 17.28, so you plan to downgrade?

  • To add - with 17.28, I have absolutely no crashes. GPS accuracy is good and battery is just great. I even recently switched the GPS to All+multiband, because the capacity is pretty satisfying. Went on a downhill skiing at 9:00, skied until 16:30, the downhill activity was on all the time (even during the lunch break, when I was inside of a building) and in the evening, I realized the remianing battery capacity was stil like 65 percent.  Fenix 7 Pro.

Maybe I didn't write it well initially - I mean, given the fact all releases after 17.28 have tons of issues, I found this one the latest stable and zero-to-less problematic among them all. This is why I went one step further upgrading to 17.28 and partially because I couldn't find 16.22 for 7XPSS.

  • please tell me where to get firmware 17.28 for downgrading and how to downgrade correctly. 7x pro solar

  • The Golden Release should be the last one, but unfortunately it is not, and while I agree that we need to find something that works, the best thing users should do is to keep sending their complaints to Garmin all the time.

  • On my Fenix 7X SS I was running 11.xx until I sold it and had no issues. I skipped all subsequent firmares on this one, since with each and every one I only read about newly introduced issues.

On my Fenix 7X Pro SS I stayed on 17.28 and I'm happy I did so. No battery drain, no issues.

The Fenix 7 Pro SS of my girlfriend came with 18.xx and I downgraded it to 17.28 recently, after it completely drained the battery over night for no apparent reason multiple times.

    No issues now with 17.28!
