Incorrect pace while running indoor track

Hello!

I've been running with my new Garmin Fenix 7 fairly consistently and my pace is very wrong while running indoor on the track in my local gym. My average pace per mile is around 10; however, it consistently shows me at 7:30ish pace. My guess is the watch thinks the track is 4 laps per mile and the track I run is 7 laps per mile. Any idea on how to fix this?

  • The indoor track (unlike an outdoor track) cannot detect the laps using GPS. It only relies on the accelerometer for the pace and distance calibration, and for that you have to calibrate the watch by some outdoor runs under good GPS conditions, or in similar way as the Treadmill activity. I highly recommend using the HRM-Pro strap - it can be calibrated easier, and the indoor distance and pace estimates are much more accurate with it (it move in the space practically linearly, in contrary to the watch that moves in the space on very complicated 3D curves, which make the estimation less accurate).
