Fenix 7 map contours disappear after rendering

Hi,

I just noticed today (29th Dec 2024) that map contours are not rendering correctly. I sometimes see them briefly appear as the map is re-drawn, but they immediate disappear. I have experimented turning off various layers but nothing has helped so far.

I have tried TopoActive maps in isolation, but I also use an alternative map, HikeAndBike-GBR, in combination with a better resolution contour layer, OpenTopoMap Great Britain contours. Neither are now displaying the contours.

I haven't used the map for at least a month so I don't know when it stopped working. I'm on the latest SW version, 19.41.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

For me the contour information is essential when navigating so I and keen to work out how to resolve it.

May it be the result or side-effect of the reshuffle of map menu? I mean I do not use sw 19.xx because they lack Map Themes, but today I played with backup & restore and realized that some factory themes did not show contours properly. So I copied my own Map Theme to Mapthemes folder of my watch.

Same issue for me on my Fenix 7x 19.41

Tries many maps but always the same problem. Map contours disappear after less than 1 seconde

Update February 7, 2025:

Our engineers are aware of a concern that may effect the rendering/appearance of Garmin mapping. They are testing a number of map fixes with the latest BETA software update. If you are experiencing this, you may consider testing the BETA version.

Hi Garmin-Laurie, my watch has just updated to S/W version 20.16, was this expected to fix the contour issue? I'm seeing no difference in behaviour; I occasionally briefly see the contours just as the map redraws and then they disappear. Or, is the fix only in the Beta version? Thanks

Our engineers were testing some mapping fixes with BETA software version 20.14. They have not indicated that this concern is resolved yet. That combined with the fact that you are still having this issue, would indicate they are still working on solutions for this. I will update here as soon as there are any further updates.

Hi, I have the same issue with my garmin fenix 7 pro sapphire solar version 20.22. Contours disappear after rendering on all maps (Topoactive and / or Map rando maps). It's really disturbing.

Do you have an update on the resolution of this issue ?

Update March 25, 2025:

While there were hopes that the mapping fixes included with the 20.16 update would resolve this, this is still an ongoing concern. Our engineers are still investigating a solution for this.
