Fenix 7 crashing when opening activity screen Xc Skate Ski with HRM

Hi,

Today I've started X-Country ski season and when I select the activity to start it, the watch just reboots. I see this happened already to someone in the past: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/361102/reboot-every-time-i-start-xc-skate-ski-activity

I tried to disable HRM (I was wearing it) and did not help. I finally did as a "Running" activity, which worked fine.

After the workout I tested different options, and the watch seemed to work better after disabling the 3D Speed and 3D Distance, but I'm not 100% sure - I did play too much with options afterwards.

Did someone ever experience similar behaviour and knows what can be quickly done to avoid these crashes?

Hey Miguel - I just had the exact same problem; watch crashed right after starting a skate xc ski. I did it as another activity (I think I chose hiking) and same results as you. I was using an external HRM too (Garmin HRM Pro).

When I got home I tried again; and had no problem starting xc skate ski… but my HRM was not connected. No problem there.

I didn’t try another HRM strap; but that does appear to be an issue…. I’d prefer to ski with an HRM too vs using the optic sensor, but I’ll try that later.

Hopefully we can find an answer!!

Hey, i have exactly the same issue with xc classic activity. Could track my activity fine as a run.

Is there a solution to this as it is annoying having to correct activity type after the workout.

Hey Janne! Funny enough I just tried this last night!

Instead of the HRM Pro, I used a Wahoo TICKR heart rate strap. Worked no problem and didn’t reset.

I’m not sure why it seems to be XC activities not behaving with the HRM Pro and the Fenix, but that seems to be the workaround for now.

Disable 3D Speed and 3D distance on XC activity settings and it works.

However, when recording XC activity directly I've less statistics than when I record as run and then convert to XC!

Hi there,

I am struggling with exactly the same problem as you: Unable to use XC skiing in combination with the HRM Pro. So far I am using the same workaround as you are.

I also got some instructions to dump the error to a file on the garmin device for the support guys.
