F7, 19.34, altitude calibration failed (DEM)

Hi,

today for the first time w/ 19.34 I tried to calibrate altitude with DEM and unfortunately it did not work (18.16 was ok).
I also tried reinstalling TopoActive maps via GE but that does not solve the problem. I assume at this point that the file is damaged therefore how can I repair it? It seems that the more I use this watch, the more annoyances are triggered...

TIA

F7, 19.34

  • that happened to me too after updating to 19.34. I use enduro 2, but it is the same as fenix 7
  • Hi Garmin-Laurie i think that we encounter a regression (partial because).

In the past it was working fine without smartphone, see this post.

    ---

Now, it isn't or as far as i can telll, DEM calibration is working, but failed to switch to the Elevation selection screen. Each time for me the propose Elevation was the correct one. See below:

    Glances "ABC"

    GPS fix

    No smartphone connection (bluetooth disconnected)

First pattern, Calibrate / DEM .... endless circle for minutes

I obtain --> no DEM elevation available

If immediately after this message i select DEM calibration, then the correct Elevation is propose and can be selected

Second pattern, Calibrate / DEM .... endless circle, but after 1 minute or less

swipe from left to right (back mouvement)

Calibrate indicate the right elevation, waiting for confirmation/selection

  • Hi i have done the test where smartphone is bluetooth connected but do not have Mobile Data. It was not working before 19.xx

but testing today, it works, so DEM calibration is OK from watch in this case. This is a change and different result not expected compared to no smartphone results.

  • I had read that this did not work in the past. I tried today with the watch connected to my phone via BT; with and without mobile data DEM calibration always succeeds. Good to know!

  • I went outside with the watch BT connected to my phone, used DEM to calibrate a Run activity and it immediately worked. Based on previous experience, this isn't normal DEM behaviour on watches with maps. I hope the next software update fixes this glitch. I always have phone disconnected from watch because I do not want my activities immediately synced to GC/Strava as soon as they're saved.Sometimes I just prefer to lock the phone in the car for a short run.

  • I had read in the forum that if a bt connection is active with GC it doesn't work but this was not the case anyway (pIease read my next posts about this)

Can't locate your next post, was curious if you have discovered more issues or a possible workaround.

All of my recent road running activities that were calibrated using GPS were recorded with negative altitude indicated in the Minimum Elev chart. These runs were at flat venues, one right alongside a river. Beginning to think it's unable to automatically correctly altitude tracking because of the DEM issue.

  • There is nothing new beyond what has been reported.

II tried calibrating with DEM using a BT connection with the phone, and both with the mobile connection and without the calibration was successful, at least this temporary workaround is helpful. I now await Garmin's response after opening a ticket.

  • Do you have any news from Garmin's support? I find this quite annoying as I do not keep a constant connection with my watch.
