A year ago the Fenix 7x Pro was a top of the line watch, and now the don’t give it the new UI - Why?

The last years Garmin didn’t kick out top of the line watches after a year, I don’t really get it - is this to put pressure on people buying the Version 8?
it’s a bit sad, because the new UI didn’t need any hardware change in my opinion.

come on Garmin, reconsider your way of acting :)

…what do you think?

  • The current strategy of infinite growth of corporate capital will take us back to the Stone Age. I don't know what Fenix 9 will look like but Fenix 10 will be a band of leaves.

  • What do you think has improved that you want on your F7? I definitely don't want to spend more time to dial in my weight when training.

  • Maybe because Garmin love to work hard on multiple line of products with specific different System UI and reduce our End-User experience with a lot of bugs since months, and years for some of them.

    ---

It will be too easy for a big company to focus their software development effort and do Software Quality.

Our devices are sharing the same SoC and most of their sub-components since 2021 ...

    ---

Apple seems to be a good example, all watches are sharing the same operating system, because SoC is quite similar/derivated and only lock those features that are not compatible with older device (hardware limits, ram, etc.).

  • Usually I am all in for getting new features on last gen devices, but in the case of the new UI I am super thankful that it is not forced on us Fenix 7 users. I am certain that more users want to keep the old UI. Imagine paying a lot of money for a watch that you love and then Garmin decides to change the way the software looks completely, and you hate the new way it looks (+there are 389 new bugs). The forums would be flooded with complaints. Remember when the Garmin connect UI changed and users went completely nuts?

  • I will write on my behalf, although I think many people will agree with the opinion:
    I don't need a new look for my F7X
    needs:
    - updates that don't spoil things that work, e.g.: for a few software versions the measurement of the floors climbed with stairs shows silly things - more than once there will be a prompt in the apartment that says I just climbed 10 floors ( no, I don't have a multi-level apartment)
    - description and instructions for the new features introduced in the change file. Currently, garmin adds a new solution to itself, enters it in the changelog, and you search for yourself what it is and how to use it.
    - since you are dividing products into those with a sun screen and those without, I want a widget that shows how much battery percentage I charged today and not some lux number that is completely useless to 99.9% of people.

    - Not to introduce a revolution at the start of the season of a particular activity - as garmin did last December by spoiling the operation of skiing and snowboarding activity registration. A great time to make changes that no one asked for when the winter activity season starts.

So you really think that a change in design is a necessary thing ?

  • I just climbed 10 floors

I have this too and I am not sure if it's software or just the barometer gone bad (yes I did a few soap water sessions). But I'm killing the mountain expedition badges now.

  • Recently Garmin just removing things from software. Another feature Lactate threshold test been removed and confirmed by Garmin. Beta 19.21

  • Do not misinterpret my post, i only want stable software, i actually don't care about new UI (only if this add interesting useful change, like Maps Controls).

Actual Operating System split is not a good news in medium to long term regarding software quality.
