When I hit 10,000 steps on my watch face it converts it to km's rather than staying on steps
Because on your watch face it is abbreviating to "k" which does not mean "kilometers" but rather "thousands" of steps.
So, to save space, 10,000 steps becomes 10k steps.
It's doing what it is supposed to do.
