Fenix ​​7X speed jumps around

Hello everyone

I have a new Fenix ​​7x Solar (before that it was an Instinct 2 Solar). Current firmware 7.28.

I noticed that during sports like inline skating, walking or cycling the speed "jumps around". By that I mean, even when I am going at a constant speed, it shows e.g. 25km/h, then 19, then 26, then 20, 23, 18, 24, 25, etc. On average it is probably correct, the distance measurement is correct. But I am not used to this jumping around from the old watch. I changed the data recording from "intelligent" to "every second", but that didn't help either.

Has anyone seen this before and has any tips for this?

    Hi René! I haven’t noticed this jump. Here are my zoomed-in 1 minute examples of (a) an inline skating activity and (b) an indoor cycling activity at a relatively constant pace using Fenix 7s Sapphire Solar: Indoor cycling speed tracked with Garmin Speed sensor.


    I have data recording set to ‘Smart’ because I”m guessing ‘every second’ consumes more battery. I use mph instead of km/h, so the jumping around might be less noticeable (just in decimals). I wonder how was your terrain, elevation, and wind in your activities and if they had any influence in your speed jumps. In walking it would definitely be odd.

    Probably the GPS satelitte could help. I use All + Multi band. Not sure if these could too, but I have 3d speed and distance activated.

    Hi Frederick. Thanks for your feedback.All + Multiband was from the beginning activated.I went for skating yesterday again, i think the displaying ^of the speed was better this time. Not as homey as with my old Instinct 2, but better. See my Screenshots from my first run and this from yesterday, for the same part of street. This is a flat way. And yesterday a bit windy. My change was now the "every second" and I also used the native app. The developer of the other app told me, that he uses the speed directly of the garmin device. So there should be no difference. But next time, I'm going to use the other app again.

    I was using the watch’s Inline Skating activity. Are you using an app from Connect IQ?

    Yes, InlineSkating+ But I've to test it again with this app, Best on the same route.
