Endurance score drops 500 point

Hi, I wonder if its normal to have such drops in endurance score and how is this actually calculated? I have built score around 7600 during July (from around 6800). I do mostly cycling and running. There were (among others) two long cycling activities (around 160km) but not in wild pace. And my usual 80 km of monthly running (average pace 5:15). I continued with activities also in august and it stayed around same levels until I did quick biking activity (23km with avg speed 27,5 so total time 50minutes) and after that it dropped. I wonder why? Previously my score dropped around 400 points but it was continuous for 10 days when I was on antibiotics, so no activities at all. Thank you.

  • Another drop today after a 12K run at my usual pace and HR. Amd supports says, everything is OK in your account. Lol!

I was about buying the Fenix 8, but with this customer support behind, I better keep my 1000 euros for something else.

  • Already posted in battery drain thread...

My endurance score also dropped by 200pts having higher HR readings during runs (recovery, base, tempo, etc.), maybe HRV messed up during sleep plus battery drain after some weird GPS stuff stuvk adter activity ...

Without changes in sport/sleep/rest/lifestyle behaviour higher HR readings during DSWs (I run on a daily! base for over 6 months now) and performance constantly dropped right after 18.14 by +200pts (maybe due to adapting in DSWs based on eventually messed up data, I dont know) ...

Besides that it may also be resulting in strange HRV values which leads to (at least I am having them compared to other reports) but lowered sleepscore values (around 70 instead auf 85 average)...coincident? (and no, I am not feeling different or bad, nor do I have a cold or flu)

Big trust issues in Garmin... Every public release full of pre-beta bugs or new crap...bummer

  • Please contact support too. I did it and they just skipped the problem. We need more users reporting to Garmin support. Hopefully they start listening to customers and not directly assuming that their software is perfect and we users don't understand how it works. Lol!

I don't know which country are you reporting from, but here in Belgium, I have never got a satisfactory response from Garmin customer support. I was about purchasing a Fenix 8. But I wonder if I should not change brand. We are in the days of all is software based and being an engineer myself, I know that a good,  reliable and responsive customer support is more important than having thousands of features that become useless one by one upon software updates.

  • Battery drains quicker here too. 3 to 4 days less that it was used to last before the update.

  • I think you will have to wait 3 months for a possible correction. I renew the invitation to downgrade the firmware to 15.77 which in my opinion is the last valid of this series. If you have problems, I do not think they will be more serious than the ones you have now and in any case you can update again to 18.14.

  • I know Nick. But downgrading will reset my watch. So, Vo2, Endurance Score and Hill Endurance will start to be measured from scratch. Unless a backup can be restored backwards. I have a backup of settings and activities but already in the latest version. Will this restore? I have no clue.

I wonder if I will ever upgrade again. This is not like phones and computers requiring security updates. Garmin cannot offer many more features on a Fenix 7 platform without overloading the processor and the battery i guess. I really wonder what more could we ask to a Fenix 7 for runners, bikers, swimmers and walkers like me. This has already all I could ever need. And since several versions ago.

The endurance score is unnecessary if you know yourself. And being so unpredictable, it becomes a pain. However the battery drainage worries me a bit despite of not being the subject of this discussion. I will check it after a new charge cycle.

  • Exactly! I learned this lesson with previous Garmins, especially the 1030. That device worked perfectly but after the 11.70 update, there was an error with the sensors and we reported it from all over the world!

The updates that were supposed to fix the anomaly continued for another 2 years, but they never managed to fix that error. The next device (1040) inherited the same errors.

Last year they closed the official 1030 forum, but left the beta version open, which is borderline illegal behavior.

Now we are at beta 13.81 and this error has never been fixed.
(I predict the same fate for the fenix 7)

I stopped at 15.77 on my 7x solar and I am the happiest in the world. My brother is also stuck at 15.77 with his Epix Pro 51mm, we have all the features and great battery life, like the first day of purchase.

I don't think you will lose the endurance score with the downgrade and not even vo2max. all the activities will be loaded back into the watch. The downgrade is already widely expected when you use a beta version and you do not lose data by going back to the previous version.

However, if you do this downgrade we will have to check the same sw versions of the sensors to be sure that the downgrade also affects them.

    I mention
for any confirmation or corrections on when I wrote about downgrade.

  • And what could I attend if the downgrade does not include the sensors? Blockages, failures, incompatibilities or just different numbers?

  • From 18.14 to 15.77 is a big step back and you would be the first to do it because many other users did this downgrade when the first errors of the 16.22 firmware were noticed.

I think that the sensors will also be affected by the downgrade and we will be able to compare them with mine that I posted to you now.
